If a major crisis never occurs, gold will very slowly climb in value, more or less matching inflation. It's a very safe investment, but with extremely low yield compared to traditional investment opportunities, so gold should only make up a small percentage of your investment portfolio (it's a financial final line of defense).

I know from people selling wedding rings and stuff they buy it for $3000 and then can't sell it for more than $300.
Wedding rings will always command their value in weight, at a minimum. Not sure why this is confusing

If my memory is accurate, and while that is still a decent deal, I prefer cash back in my pocket so I can spend it anywhere, but to each his/her own.
Plus, I would need to upgrade my membership to the tune of $60 additional per year, which would negate (roughly) the 2% back unless I bought two coins.
There is actually a way to buy AGE/AGB for below spot, and have 12-18 months to pay for them at 0% interest, but it does require a top notch credit score.

P.S. The 2% back from the using your Citi Card is a good deal. I had forgotten about that so thanks for the reminder. Very useful to remember for big purchases like this. Plus, Costco does not charge a premium for using a CC like most dealers do.
