It's a widespread issue so much so this generation and even Nintendo was fixing pads for free for years due to it. Sony still does too, I recently got one back for it on a PS5 I got in November.
I have fully working controllers, consoles and other gaming accessories since 1988 with no issues but almost every pad I've had over the last few years has experienced drift. I game a lot but jesus, it's bad.
It just seems like it's overblown when it's not Nintendo. I've personally had a ton of friends experience stick drift with the Joycons, and it was flooding social media for a good long while. I've never had an xbox controller develop drift, and none of my friends outside one have had Xbox controllers develop it, save for one friend with kids that damage them. I've never had a PS4 or 5 controller develop drift, and none of my friends have had their controllers develop them either.
The few people who seem to have genuine issues with drift are very few compared to how many controllers are out there. I would also believe that a decent amount of the people complaining about controllers only lasting a month are either people that don't take care of their devices, or people that are just looking to fight a "CONSOLE WARZ!!1!", a meme that honestly died 15 years ago when I was in middle school.
The controller is a decent buy at $50 if you're looking for a replacement for your old, worn-down controller, or you want a unique looking controller so yours doesn't go missing during a party. That's why I bought my last controller anyways; I know none of my friends have the same color anywhere in their house for it to potentially get mixed up. It's not a slick deal because normal-colored ones go for this price or less constantly.
