Agreed. The 5700G is a good CPU with truly great integrated graphics, but AMD has kept the price so inflated that a price point like this is hard to clearly label a slick deal.

If someone has already been shopping the 5700G this could be a respectable bundle price for them, especially considering this is widely available for shipping.

However, anyone simply shopping a CPU/motherboard deal would only value the motherboard around $60 (basically, the price of the cheapest retail option). That puts this CPU's effective valuation in the deal at $180. As I suggested earlier, that's not bad but is still more than you might pay at Micro Center (assuming you have access to one nearby). Additionally, the MC option bundles the cooler(!).

Reminder that the 5700X is arguably a better choice for pairing with a dedicated graphics card, as AMD has limited the G-series to PCIe 3.0 (and made some other compromises). The fact that the G-series delivers graphics performance on par with a GT 1030 is truly a feat for integrated graphics, but those with needs beyond basic productivity and/or onboard connectivity would likely get more value from a model without an iGPU.

Good luck!

This does not come with a heatsink. So budget for that in your purchase.

Still thinking of buying 2020 technology in 2024? I wouldn't. Don't get me wrong, this was a great combo, but times have changed. I don't see anyone still buying 10700k CPUs. Just saying...

As for the price, it is a margin discount. Not a slickdeal.

Where in your dreams can this specific MSI MB be had for $60?

People around here commenting on PC components sure do like to make shit up, like you should only "value" this MB at $60...for reasons.
he was basically saying you dont need to pair this CPU with such expensive MB because it is not gonna make use of all those features, and especially you are buying into a soon-to-be-obsolete platform. a cheap $60 MB that can support this CPU is all you need.

This hardware is 3 years old. The 5700G was released 4/13/2021. Buyer beware.

While old for computer parts, it means it's the best integrated graphics solution you can get without investing more for DDR5 ram.

It may not be slick, but it would be a huge upgrade from the Phenom ii I'm typing from.

Sure it's 3 years old, it's also still more than most people even need. The only people who should beware are gamers who want or maybe need more performance than most people.

I have 5600g and 5700g computers and don't find them lacking the performance I need and I'm gaming on them, with dedicated graphics cards though not integrated graphics.

I don't see this as a super deal though, not sure I'd buy at this price. You can find complete pc's for not that much more, my 5600g hp gaming desktop was $200 used but you can also find good deals on complete atx standard systems of this vintage.

The 5700g can only handle pci 3.0 not good if you plan to use a graphics card.

while this is a decent deal the x16 and m.2 slots will only run at PCIe-3.0 with this particular cpu. Should only affect low end cards with narrow bus.

I'd really like to order this but I get "Shipment Method FAILURE" no matter what I try.

Oh, well.

*EDIT:* They fixed it about an hour later and I ordered it successfully!

I've been rocking an i7 - 3770 system for 10+ years with a 14 year old Gigabyte MB. Near daily use, still no issues. I don't believe for a second that any $60 MB would have lasted half this long.

Thank you. Perhaps the intent of my statement might have been clearer if I had inserted a few additional words to clarifiy the initial context?

The primary suggestion being that buyers seeking the cheapest CPU/motherboard combo would value the board at the retail price of the cheapest retail motherboard option. The only bragging rights provided by the typical ASRock AM4 board are I bought the cheapest retail board. However, they do inform my reference since they ship B450 motherboards viaAmazon [amazon.com] at under $60 and even offer A520 models in Micro Center [microcenter.com] at under $63. The various features distinguishing either of these models and the MSI in this listing aren't immediately consequential to someone prioritizing a minimum price upgrade.

Good luck!

The Gigabyte motherboards boards I bought in 2022 and 2023 to replace some aging Phenom II X6 systems were sub-$60. I have no reason to believe I won't get a long life from them. Part of that extends from the fact that the motherboards underneath those Phenom chips were similarly cheap bundle motherboards (and clearly hung around for a good long while).

Good luck!
Jon
