I have had these for about 5 years (Well... 6 yrs in September).

This is, imo, a good price for the set.

Pros:
Good sound out of the box
Good build quality
As mentioned, probably some of the better "pc speakers" out there in this or any price range, really (without a discrete amp/ bookshelf combo)
Bluetooth
Physical tone controls
Remote
Plays well with any decent preamp (I have mine hooked up to a JDS Atom that I wasn't using any more.... so I have a physical volume control in front of me and... to my ear, it tightens up the transient response of the speakers)

Cons:
Remote has sort of limited range (needs line of sight too) so depending on how you have things set up it may be more of a frustration than a boon
The tone controls are digital (the pots spin eternally, though they have a built in limit on how far you can go)
The bass tone control is sort of useless beyond maybe a 10% increase (the tone controls go from -6 to +6db... you can maybe go to +1db before there is some clipping at room-level volumes... with that said these are a warm-natural leaning set... there is a good deal of bass punch to the sound +/-0)

Some vibration at higher volumes (not internal, but external... they can get loud enough to make them dance a bit on a hard flat surface), I put them on foam speaker wedges to solve this.

I would recommend them without a second thought. TU.

Couldn't really tell you if there is a power consumption concern (I don't know how worried you are about this, that's a pretty personal preference issue, and not one that I really concern myself with for small electronics), but there is no heat concern (they produce none)

The simple answer is yes, they will auto sync with your Mac (on wake) if it was the last thing connected via bt, as long as nothing else has been synced with it as well (and was currently running an unpaired, open bt connection when you slept the mac).

The set cannot multipoint, so if you have your phone connected, connecting your mac will disconnect your phone and vice versa... if you have both synced and bt constantly running on both devices... sleeping one device will cause the other to find the open connection and sync to it. Does that make sense? In that example, once you woke your mac, if the speakers had connected to your phone you would simply have to select the speakers from your list of remembered bt devices on your mac.

Lol right. It's one of those kinds of comments that doesn't even warrant a reply really. I have a bunch of JBL bt speakers in this house (a charge 5, go 3, and a few clips.... every family member has one at their disposal for whatever use.... I keep my clip hanging in the shower lol)... even if they were aimed at the pc market... claiming they're louder or clearer that really any decent bookshelf setup is laughable.

They're loud for their size, and they're pushing some amazing fun low end.... but as you said it's not even a comparison.

These sound great. They're solid speakers. The bluetooth on them will die sometime after 6 months and you'll be forced to hardline with RCA or Optical cable if you want to continue using them. Plan for the wireless functionality to be gone sooner rather than later.

Would these work well as monitors for an electric keyboard in the house?

Got the 1280 version recently, very happy with the sound quality as computer/phone media output. As bigger brother to that one, this set probably has comparable/better performance, with higher output power and Bluetooth connection.

Exactly. I've been wanting to pull the trigger on a Clip 4 for a while now but just have a ridiculous number of Bluetooth speakers and can't find a way to justify it... somehow it still manages to be in my Amazon shopping cart from time to time until I remember I don't need it lol

If you like the Go 3 form factor, I highly recommend checking out a Boomcore speaker pair. You can often get a single for ~$20 or a two pack for ~$35 which is a steal. I really like my Go 3 but have honestly barely touched it since picking up a Boomcore to play with. It goes louder and the battery lasts longer. It is slightly longer than the Go 3 but definitely worth the price, especially when you pair two together for a true stereo setup. I pretty much only use them synced in stereo pair since I grabbed a second.

All of that being said, you are more than right about the clownish comment and I should have known better than to reply. Sometimes, much to my wife's disappointment, I react instead of just moving along. I always hope that someone will stop and realize their clownish behavior and correct it in the future but given that there is no way to measure my success rate, I really need to just chill out more lol

You can always add a dedicated Bluetooth dongle to the back for cheap. There are tons of them and you can always find them very reasonably priced. Here is one I've used for about a year on an old surround sound receiver at work for playing music: https://a.co/d/6WEyTs0

If you leave it on and plugged in to power, it will always be available to connect.

That being said, if the Bluetooth feature dies on these that quickly then something is definitely off and I can't picture that being a widespread problem. I've probably had about 3-4 pair of Edifier speakers and most of them were Bluetooth models that I never had issues with

as someone mentioned earlier, these do not have a sub out. If deep bass is something you need, I would suggest the one with the sub out. I bought the 1700 BTs and later bought the edifer sub. It makes a huge difference. The speaker alone does have a good bass to it and I thought it wouldn't be a huge difference. But once I set up the dedicated bass, it was completely different. I usually have to turn it down a bit due to the rumble.

The Harman Kardon Onyx Studio line of speakers are premium, portable Bluetooth speakers. Beyond that, there have currently been 8 generations of the primary Onyx Studio series (not counting mini or spinoff models) so the lack of specificity here hinders any comparison that could (but shouldn't) be made. They are an entirely different form factor of speaker.

does it make any sense to hook these up to a TV in the living room? thinking about a TV / music situation where when TV is off use Bluetooth from phone to play music, but not sure if it makes sense at all to have TV hooked up to it

FWIW i bought the white and grey to match my samsung G9 monitor back in October and love these.

The power does not go off on its own, but the side button on the right speaker is very easy to press to turn them off. My PC connects to them directly out of sleep (if they are on and the light is blue instead of green). Can't speak to a Mac.

The only thing is sometimes they connect to my phone before my PC or visa versa and I have to shut off Bluetooth to connect the device I want but that is a BT issue not specific to this device.
