Just ordered one. Great reviews if you need a large checked bag.

Ben Sherman…luggage….at Home Depot.

What timeline is this?
Polycarbonate is better. You'll see ABS, polypropylene, etc., but polycarbonate is the best. Good luck!
I'd put $$$$$$ on any airline never charging $200 for a bag being less than an inch per side over permitted dimensions. Its completely unrecognizable. For regular luggage they are only concerned about weight. If I'm wrong someone please comment. I would think the many reviews would have mentioned this if it were an actual issue. I'll keep it and hopefully it is more durable than my last amaz basic large checked.

woot has an all Polycarbonate set for 160 right now.

Wife has one if these (nottingham) and its been okay, but it's abs and we havent trusted it for the flying we do. They have the 20" for like 49 too, but we went ahead and got the polycarbonate set on woot instead.

Brand name please?

Edit: nvm, found Olympia but Amazon has another brand polycarbonate set of 3 for $120 with good reviews.

Was about to order one but dimension is 64.5 linear inches.
Delta and southwest (the ones I checked) only permit up to 62 linear inches (63-80 inches incur an additional $200 charge)
Out for me.

I have only had my checked bag weighed in dozens of trips from JFK and LGA to and from other major airports in the past few years. Are airlines now seriously breaking out the tape measure, for 2.5 LINEAR inches ?? That's less than 1 inch per side. Anyone with real world experience with this? If this is happening I'm returning, and we are screwed as travelers!

I fly a fair amount, mostly on Alaska and Singapore and some other Asian carriers.. I get weighed almost everywhere but I've never seen them pull the tape measurer out, my largest is just at 62in too but i think it's pretty rare to check at least in my experience. Maybe if you check a chest or other odd shape luggage you'd be more likely for a gate agent to get out a tape but at least in my experience it's super rare

Yeah but on a newly purchased bag why take the risk? It's not like you can go home and repack so getting the right bag is the only thing that makes $ense.

Was about to bite, but saw it's made of ABS plastic, not polycarbonate.

Can someone explain the love for hard sided luggage? Static measurement ie can't stretch the fabric to go beyond airline maximum sizes?

Weight matters for flying more than shape or size.

Wrap it in something soft, like clothes. I just don't get the hype for hard sided luggage other than easier to clean but then it also cracks and breaks...

I have never had an issue with fragile items in soft luggage. It's not like the entire luggage is filled with only fragile things. You can use your clothes to pad the fragile stuff. Hard luggage is heavy and difficult to pack.

What I really don't understand is hard luggage carry on. If you are handling your own luggage why do you need a hard luggage. the added weight makes it difficult to lift up to the bins. i had this lady ask me to help her with her hard luggage to the bin. When I lifted it, I almost injured my shoulder. I am never helping anyone with hard luggage again.
