I've used tons of their exterior screws without much issues. If you're talking about interior black screws then maybe but sometimes people end up using them for wrong things, those are mainly for attaching Sheetrock to wooden studs NOT plywood to wood.
GRK have been better for sure but those usually cost more as well. I try to about Philips shaped heads for any application requiring higher torque because them can out more often vs star shaped heads.
I have gone through numerous 5lb boxes in my basement with no issues.

Bought a ton at HD clearance recently also. Grip rite work great, never had issue
