This phone is a flip phone.

It is definitely not a touchscreen UI on the handset.
Navigation is with a physical keypad.

I don't see any copyright credits in the About screens that say Google or Android.

According to the phonescoop website it is a proprietary OS.

I currently have a prepaid tracfone plan that will expire in a month. Can I get this to add to my current prepaid tracfone number for two years of service? Thank you!

Currently have an old smart Tracfone with no service. Can I activate this phone and then transfer service to the smartphone?

User reports indicate you can. I haven't personally tried, so take this with a grain of salt: but it sounds best to do it through the online portal, choosing to keep your number when asked during activation.

There are mixed reports of how exactly to go about doing this.

Maybe someone who's done it can chime in on the exact steps to apply these to an existing line.

ASOP is Android…

But yea, all I'm finding about this phone is that it's "custom os" .. probably still built off ASOP LOL

Okay, do these come with physical nano-SIM cards?

Because the product page states they do not come with SIM cards . But users are saying they are activating SIM cards.

Im guessing this discrepancy is due to these phones coming with a physical SIM card already installed IN the phone rather than the old way separately in a prepaid-type cardboard SIM card "card" that you had to install yourself into the phone tray.

Can someone verify if this is the case?

Yes, but don't swap the sim into the unlocked phone. Buy the $1 BYOD sim and activate, choose keep number option.

Is it not possible to activate these with the keep your own number option?

Yes, but the OP wanted to put the sim into a third unlocked phone. Not recommended. The BYOP/BYOD sim is the correct path for a non-TF phone.

Yes. The sim is pre-installed in the phone. TF eliminated old-style cards some years back. Probably to eliminate reselling plans, etc. The sim and phone IMEI are essentially married, hence you shouldn't swap sims between phones.

@Oregon15 is probably tired of answering the same half dozen question on every TF thread. New users will find it instructive to read through some of the older TF and/or Orbic threads.

Checked the Orbic, the OS is something unfathomable, to me.
The TracFone TCL Flip 2 is AOSP, based on Android 11.

It is indeed a funky OS with some sort of Android codebase, but one should not think of it as anything but a generic proprietary flip phone interface. You cannot install any Android apps. I just had a system update show up on both of mine and when I OK'd it is literally displayed 'Updating Android' (attached).

The lack of a Google Play Store and installed Android apps is why I did not think this phone is Android-based.

People want/expect an Android phone to run the same apps that other phones do.

This phone is not an everyday phone for power users. Only good for use as a burner or kids' phone. It is expendable or for harvesting.
