This exact configuration on best buy NEW is 1049.99 and open box from 911. So this isnt too bad of a price. Its a hard sell though at any price. These surfaces need keyboards that are often sold separately. The form factor is the selling point but realize it is not enjoyable in your lap while in your lap or tummy in bed. In bed, your most creative ideas happen. Writing a novel, doing excel spreadsheets for financing etc, opening up an etsy store, light programming, messing around with AI when bored. Take all this into consideration. I had a 7+ pro for a few weeks before deciding to return it at best buy.

Even if it's 99% there, many big corporates don't even upgrade to even the next x86 Windows version for 4-5 years. That's how long they think it takes for the new Windows to become fully reliable. Most still run Windows 10. I doubt they will jump to Windows on ARM anytime soon.
I agree, Win7 -> Win 10 -> Win 11 migration sucks ass and is a pain to validate all of the apps.

There will be handful of executives running ARM64 Windows because they have lighter workload and don't need all of the apps the worker bees need to run the company.

ARM Windows will take forever to materialize simply because there are just too many apps to convert to native ARM.

I do really like ARM SP X because of the built-in cellular feature but I am tethering or using my dedicated hot spots so often that I don't really need the SP X anymore because I do want more than one device to get on the hotspot and not rely on public wifi

Do these still have SD card slots? SD cards are super cheap anymore and I've found they are great way to add slow, non-critical storage to my old tablet (it only had a 128gb SSD). It's great for dumping some videos/music for travel.

I got a Surface Go 2 10" for like $100. it's cheap enough and it's relatively new and usb-c connection. Surface 7 is 250+. Surface 3-4 can be had for cheaper though.

just ebay them

bogus info I had a surface pro 3 until it died of ssd failure, and there is no option to fix anything on these. however, it was better than any apple or android tablet I ever used by far. The kickstand was revolutionary, and it works on beds too. just use an external bt keyboard and save money. those type kb are often portable but not quite as nice as a type cover or equivalent. lenovo make a type cover that became a bt keyboard after taking it off the tablet, now that's pretty sweet.

if there weren't right of repair complaints, I'd have another surface pro right now

Crap. 3-4 hours with MS office and one note use.
Not sure what you're doing but 3-4 hours feels like an exaggeration. I won't disagree though that the battery life was completely underwhelming. I got 5 hours but that was 75% brightness and heavy load of Chrome tabs (100+) with a ton of Youtube watching, and other basic apps running in the background.

I returned mine primarily for the battery life reasons but also the fact that Intel hasn't been able to put together a capable enough engine for years (until apparently the Core Ultra range and beyond).

This thing, with a keyboard included for $1200 might be worth looking at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8P0G-JLeZD4

(review just happened to be posted today)
The minisforum is an amd surface alternative to consider along with the Dell, huawei, chuwi, fujitsu, hp, and Lenovo pc tablets for those that don't want to deal with Microsoft quality (look up "white spots surface") or service.

That said, it's kinda absurd for that review to call it a "gaming" tablet with no nvidia gpu...

The ONLY pc tablet that'll crush benchmarks because it has a nvidia is:

https://rog.asus.com/us/laptops/r...23-series/

Which has been on sale for around the same price on Amazon earlier.

Don't forget poor drivers support, too, in win X.

What do you think you need 32GB of memory for in a tablet? Blow my mind here...

I'll give you the SSD though; for such a premium device, that's limited in on the go expansion options, it really should be coming with 512GB-1TB considering how cheap solid state storage is currently.
Seriously! Not saying you shouldn't attempt to "future proof" your primary PC - you should ideally have all the RAM you think you'll need in a couple of years. But IMO 32gig on what is an everyday personal use device is bonkers.

Which is to say - you have the option to pay for it if you really need it. But to suggest 16gig is measly for average daily consumer usage is just laughable.

It's not an exaggeration at all. 2 hours of straight note taking on One Note, killed it one day. From 100 to zero. 100+ Chrome tabs? That sounds like an exaggeration.

Yes true.

I also have some other Dell 2-in-1 that I got cheap for random use.

https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/del...290-2-in-1

I got one of these for like $90 on ebay and comes with keyboard. I like it because it's super bright with 500+ nits.

USB-c ports were a must so I can charge it with the same cables I have on my desk.

All great little portable "Windows" options when I want to use a Wintel.

I really should get rid of some devices...

I've had multiple surface pros going all the way back to the 10.4" original. Never had a single problem with them on my lap, including while riding the bus to campus in college.

The 7+ and later, you can swap out the SSD. Beginning with the 10, you can replace nearly everything.

I forgot to reply on this specifically. I was super gong-ho to get the Dell 2-in-1 first but price was high at close to $2000. After I considered the options and tried SP X SQ1 with LTE (I had a card and all) but ARM64 app support was garbage lol

So after some false starts and more considerations ... I opted not to get built-in LTE/5G on Windows devices because I realized I do want to have more devices connected to my own 5G.

1) because I end up using macOs more often
2) only new devices have 5G, most were on LTE
3) Phone tether - I do have 50GB tethering phone plan but I use this as secondary, came with phone service
4) I got 100GB tethering device because phone tethering is often slower speed despite advertise unlimited speed (same provider as my 5G hotspot with 5G plan on the phone too), and walking away means my laptop will get disconnected where hot spot will be in range to be on.

I use 4) most of the time unless I don't expect to use the network all day to save a small weight in my bag.

My hotspot is like $40 for 100GB after some plan discounts so I deemed it more worth it fraction of a cup of coffee per day.

I end up going back to MacOs as primary after trying to switch to Surface Pro/Dell 2-in-1 tablets. (SP7, SP9, SP X SQ1, Dell XPS 13, 7210, etc) all failed to leave an impression on me.

I miss macos too much -- specifically the iMessage Cloud. Windows has the Phone Link but support is not 100% on group messaging and lacks Multi-media...

oh and I realized my fingers are just too greasy to be touching my screens all the time on a 2-in-1 device. Drives me crazy to see the smudges!!! haha.
