Also, the studios and digital platform made a mutually beneficial business agreement. Some people buy the physical media to get the digital copy and vice versa. I can name quite a few TV series which the digital isn't for sale from VUDU or iTunes, only available from digital code included in the physical media. Studios have to reimburse VUDU or iTunes whenever someone redeem the digital code included in the physical media. That's why Warner Bros decided to hard expire the MA codes because that's pure profit in accounting. The other studios that decided not to expire the digital code has to set aside money in case the digital code gets redeemed. I was told that VUDU and iTunes pay studios some money to get their product included in the physical media, and they get reimbursed a lot more when someone redeems the code. In a way, they are banking on getting some revenue from physical media sale.
There is this guy on Reddit who purchased 14,000 movies on VUDU. I don't think he has time to watch everything. If VUDU decides to disappear, I'm sure the guy would want to sue to get his money back.
Again, I don't think VUDU or iTunes can simply disappear without transferring people's paid libraries to another platform.
Before purchase, I did chat with a rep online and asked if this was a mix of SD and HDX. She informed me that these are all HDX quality. I have 4K TVs throughout the house and briefly check the quality on a title. It played very well, not as good as physical media, but many of these titles are from a generation or two ago. One of the movies in this bundle is Witness for the Prosecution. It is a black and white movie but is an excellent watch. I have it on physical media already and we'll watch it that way. Many of the other titles here are either not available on Blu-ray or just not available on any present day media. Another quick example is the Russians are Coming, the Russians are Coming. 4.7 stars, $19 for the Blu-ray and it does not come with a digital copy. I feel that the streaming quality of this title is probably very close to a Blu-ray and is definitely better than the alternatives of DVD and VHS.
For those buying on Vudu, the titles do not populate your library individually but are stacked as a single bundle. A word search will reveal them properly, it's just that when you are looking from newest to oldest or in alphabetical order, they will not show up individually. The rep that I talk to said she would escalate this to correct this in the future.
I wish MoviesAnywhere was a little bit more cooperative in buying titles in iTunes and Vudu. It's all about licensing. you should truly be aware that licensing issues, whether they be for cable, streaming services, etc are always a risk. This is why I prefer physical media, but hey, this was kind of a very good price to take that gamble and watch some of these classics in a pretty good quality format.
How embarrassing for them to even post this!
And people are really going to pay $100

And they just removed Hercules 1983 which was added as an error so the average just jumped higher. Leaving Hot Pursuit and Biodome as the bottom of the barrel.

Agreed. The vast bulk of all physical media ever produced starting with vinyl records, cassette tapes, 8 track, VHS and beta max, and cds are now rotting in trash heaps around the world as I type.
And now folks are finding what they want to watch on digital platforms and rarely if ever touch their 'old dvds'. Which many are now throwing out too.
So statistically physical media ends up in a dump when we're gone and I'm guessing the issue with digital collections in the future will be lost passwords and logins after folks pass on. Same Junk. One physical one digital.
