It is that bloody simple. Unless there's enough backlash or someone with the rights is willing to take over. Then you're screwed. Look at how many video games you can't play anymore because the servers are gone. You own nothing. And. You. Will. Like. It.

Personal calculations on this bundle leads me to pass. Most of the movies I want from here I already "own" in one form or another, the remainders aren't worth $100 to me. Maybe at $50 I'd pull the trigger just for variety. If I was just starting out "buying" digital, then this bundle would be a no-brainer. (Bearing in mind that it's really a "lease" with an unknown end date).

This behavior of renting content to you and calling it a "purchase" needs to stop.
You should be wary of the fact they tried to pull this crap.
Who cares? You aren't going to be able to do anything about it.

iTunes would be the way to go with this bundle. I am kind of amazed I don't have any of these already in my iTunes library. There are some great films in here, but I don't like adding movies to my library that I don't plan to watch more than once. If there were at least 30-40 movies in here that I thought I would rewatch, I would go for this bundle. Still impressed by the size and value of this. Repped.
It's not a purchase. It's a rental with no defined end date. You will own nothing and like it.
This is why I support those that remove drms from their movies and transfer them to local servers like Plex or Emby. If you buy something it's yours. If the advertising said "rent these movies" for $100, then I would be against doing that, but fine print or not, if I buy a movie it's mine, and I should be able to do whatever the hell I want with it other than resell copies.
Flixter and UltraViolet could have left their customers out to dry, but they didn't. When they exited the business, they merged with VUDU. I guess the real test would be Funimation which runs its own digital copy platform and most of their content aren't found in VUDU or iTunes. If they decide to go away, let's see what happens to the collection people bought over the years. My guess is that they would follow Flixter and UV model and transfer their collection and customers to VUDU or iTunes.
If I had to bet one way or another, I'll put money that my purchased collection isn't going to disappear.

And also there would probably be a class action lawsuit.
Yes and no... you can't burn a DVD.
