Good shows. SG:U was just getting going when it was cancelled.
It's bs that we never even got a run down of what they were planning on doing. David Blue knows but refuses to say anything in case the show comes back. I mean, come on dude, just tell us, it isn't coming back.
So much garbage being greenlit for streaming services but there's virtually no new Stargate in 10+ years. What the hell.

I loved Stargate: Universe, I think it's the strongest of the three series (SG-1, Atlantis, Universe).

Why? Because I think the percentage of high-quality episodes across those 40 episodes is very high and that might make it the strongest in the franchise.

Out of the other 314 episodes (SG-1/Atlantis) are there equal or better episodes? Out of 300 episodes, I'd sure hope so, but you've got to sit through a lot of snoozers!

They're very different types of series, so maybe it's not a comparison as personal preference. SG-1 storylines are a lot more like Atlantis, than either is like Universe. That's not to say there aren't parallels, as Universe does have some similarities to Atlantis (on an unfamiliar vessel, stuck far away and even more cut off, and basically can only dial locally, even though "locally" changes on Universe) the storylines tend to be a bit differently written (even when plot elements are borrowed).

That said, I've thought it would be a hard watch if you've never seen the original two series and might not have the significance that it does if you don't know the nuance of the originals (I have seen them) and enjoy the guest stars and other references.

BUT... Others have posted that their non-Stargate friends tended to like SG:U better than their Stargate friends, so maybe that isn't relevant.

TBC, I define high-quality episodes as those that I really like Smilie

I always felt that was the ending they decided on (knowing it was ending). I didn't take it as a cliffhanger that needed to be solved at the start of another season. It did give them a launching spot if a 3rd season got picked up or someone else licensed the show.

SG-U was widely panned, so you are in a distinct minority, but to each his own. Scy-fi channel basically decided to try to milk some more money out of the SG fan base on the cheap in a similar way they tried with Caprica for BSG and failed. It did not work as you can't have awful writing combined with awful acting and characters that are not likeable or believable on any level and expect to carry a fan base imo.

SG-1 was outstanding (esp. the first 7 seasons). SG Atlantis was pretty good. SG-U was just soap opera drivel on a small budget with really bad actors imo. There is a reason it got cancelled after 2 seasons, namely the SG fan base largely abandoned it.

My 2 cents.

The incomplete series. Cancelled in it's prime.

Yeah. It was getting good. I like the dark feel of the show.

$10 is way too much to pay for the show that killed the franchise. I'm talking about SGU if it wasn't obvious. They could've run Atlantis for another 5 years instead of cancelling it early to make this CW Drama style flop that barely ran 2 years while trying to turn Stargate into a bad Battlestar Galactica replacement. It had a couple of good episodes in the 2nd season but too little, too late. I will always be mad they threw away a good formula and two good shows for this thing. Even if SG1 wasn't great with all of the Ori stuff, I did like the new team with the Farscape vets. Atlantis was still awesome for all 5 seasons and could've kept going. It's a shame.

Ditto, though I think SG-1 ran its course. Once Richard Dean Anderson took a secondary role and they went to the Ori story line, it sort of went from excellent to just mediocre at best imo. Part of what made SG-1 really great was the really bad villains with agendas (Apophis, Anubis, the Replicators, Bal, etc). The Ori and their story line were just not as well thought out and not as entertaining in that respect imo. And the time travel stuff they pulled at the end was just lame imo.

As to Atlantis, yeah they definitely should have ran that on as there was no reason to kill it outside of Sci-fy just did not want to spend money on the show anymore and thought they could get away with doing a much cheaper SG-U with a very badly written BSG wanna be story line and the fan base would follow. They badly miscalculated because SG-U was awful imo.

My 2 cents.

FYI, they "finished" the story in a series of comics since the show got the axe.

I loved the movie, are the two earlier shows worth it?

No thanks, they'd likely ruin the entire franchise like everything else they touch.

There's a video clip somewhere of a director and I think a writer discussing this and they both took the stance that there was no story worked out because of how the cancellation happened. If Blue stated otherwise he's likely full of it. Though the comics the other user posted above may scratch your itch if you want some sort of conclusion I guess.

Definitely, I can't argue with your thoughts on SG-1. I was still enjoying the show, but didn't like the Ori storyline. It felt like a rehash of the Goa'uld's false god thing, but just with a change where they actually had god-like powers... but then it was odd that SG1 even stood a chance against that. It was poorly thought out.

Seems like the SG-1 bundle is SD even for Seasons 8-10, even though they are typically HDX. Vudango wants $30 a season to upgrade to HDX. So overall the $100 normal price with the HDX is the better value.
