it seems there are cheaper options for very similar products ...
but let me know if I am missing something. Either way these are nice and I will likely replace my plastic containers), so thanks OP for getting me to look.

Is this not the normal price? Pretty sure these never get higher than $39.
Bought 2 sets of these close to a year ago and they work great. Have had zero issues with them. The black seal in the lids do come out which is nice. Overall glad we got them.

I don't get the allure of glass vs plastic. It's heavier, more expensive and fragile. Anyone who thinks its a health benefit is misquided. The modern plastics used for food storage containers simply do not leach chemicals into your food. That's a common internet misconception.

You're 100% correct and all you get are down votes. Don't you love how ignorant people are these days.

If it's real borosilicate glass then it should be thin and light like lab instruments.
I don't know about that, I have PYREX measuring cups and the glass is quite thick.

Newer Pyrex is not borosilicate glass unless it's made in the EU. They switched to Soda glass a few years ago. You can tell the difference by holding up to a light and see if the edge of the glass is greenish. If it's greenish in color, its' not borosilicate glass. I have both types and it's easy to figure out which is the older boro glass. Both work great, just like Boro as I'm a chemist.

I doubt you're going to influence complete strangers by taking something that looks like a snippet from something paid for by the plastics industry and touching it up with a little snark. Just because you cannot think of a "good" reason that someone prefers glass doesn't mean they don't have one. But the trust-the-science mob seem to pride themselves in knowing what's best for everyone, even to their own detriment.

If it is written s PYREX it is borosilicate. It written as Pyrex it is not.
My measuring cups are PYREX, yes, they are quite thick, and no, there is no greenish tint.
(Yes, I am an engineer.)

I have these; all the lids being so close in size is pretty annoying. Usually have to pull a couple out. Just get a set where there are fewer lid sizes

I'll give you 2 reasons for glass over plastic without even touching the scientific or the logical ones.

1. Stench/smell
  • Do you mean to tell me that you've never stored onions in a plastic container? If you have then you already know that onions go in, but they never come back out!
2. Staining
  • Do you mean to tell me that you've never stored spaghetti sauce in a plastic container? If you have then you already know how the sauce goes in but the stain never comes out!
Oh and, plastic is made from dinosaur bones (aka) crude oil..... Oooops. That was 3 reasons!

Mate, this is not a forum on chemicals, kitchenware. We are just discussing the bargain deals, and whether it is a good discount or not on something one wants to buy. We are here not to argue pros and cons of one product vs another. If you can find a better deal, a coupon, a cashback, please share. Otherwise, you can keep those remarks to yourself. There are food, health and other forums for that too. You can go there.

Why this one of coarse, obviously, literally, seriously! This kind of math happens all the time, everywhere, very likely with nano-second frequency globally speaking. Hens the current state of things. šŸ˜žbut true!

I have these. The glass chips easily. Glass isn't my favorite supplement. Borosilicate glass is only good if made correctly. The latch retention weakened after a dozen snaps. I expect the plastic pins to break. The latches get in the way when fitting the lid requiring two hands.

I will stick with buying U.S.A. made. I like Snapware Total Solutions even if they are only sodalime version of genuine pyrex.

Rubbermaid glass: some have broken from a slight bump and a few were made wrong so the lids don't seal. RM replaced those. Only the plastic ones seal well enough for freezer use. Don't like how the seal prevents filling to the top. Can be extremely difficult to open frozen.
