I own both. They feel similar performance wise but the onn has a better remote plus 4k.
I love having one to bring on trips: usually you can plug them into your hotel room TV and then register them on the hotel's wifi network so that you aren't subject to whatever nonsense TV selection they have.
Fire stick used to be good, now it's terrible. Slow and filled with wayyy too many ads.

anything youd suggest for roughy the same price
I'm wondering if the 4k version of this is faster or something, because mine flys. Especially compared to the stock OS on my TV.

EDIT: Yeah the 4k version of this has more RAM and more processing power.

Which is perfect if you don't have a 4k TV. You can run it at 1080 P with better performance.

Anyone used this to stream meta quest to a TV?
Looking to purchase it for the same thing! I know Meta removed support, but I believe they added it back?

I've heard the "recommended" method is to stream the Quest to your phone, and broadcast the phone to a TV.

Any reason to buy this over the Walmart Onn box (which supports 4K)?
I would go with current ONN box or wait for the new one they are rolling out in a few months.

Google and Android boxes are the way to go moving forward. Firesticks are losing their appeal due to restrictions being added to them, even though they are still very nice. If you are not sideloading apps and using these to their fullest potential a Roku might work for you.

Grab the Onn box & side load Wolf Launcher on it. Runs super smooth and gets rid of all the bloatware.

How easy is it to access the HDMI on a hotel TV though?

Totally depends on the hotel but they are usually reachable. The issues come when the hotels have the TVs locked onto their proprietary infotainment systems, thus not allowing switching to other HDMI ports, even if the TV has them available.

You can usually bypass this by disconnecting the content distribution box and restarting the TV.

The content distribution box is video plus bi-directional data, which not only allows it to override the entire TV, but also lets you communicate out to order various services.

These boxes can absolutely spy on your usage, but hotels are also integrating them with presence sensing devices (swiping your key card being one) to turn on the TV and start showing ads the minute you get in the room.

Even if I don't intend on using the TV, those get unplugged right away.

Too bad this isn't the combination power/hardwired ethernet adapter, I'd buy it just for that at this price.

The only perk on this model is native AV1 decoding. I would pick the 4K model (or the Walmart ONN version) for even double the price due to superior performance.

My kid does - she can't keep up with a full day of sightseeing and running around, so it's nice to have for downtime.

When I've tried it, it's been easy: the places I've tried it so far all had normal ports, and I could reach them. I imagine some setups might not work though, like if they have some setup without HDMI ports or if they block access to them.
