Yea, but it's good to be 2-3 generations behind on routers, because the new routers are so buggy.

When this router came out, it was bug heaven, until the community ironed things out with merlin. And you always want to buy the most popular asus model, because it has by far the most merlin users fixing bugs. In comparison, the biggest-fastest-routers, king spiders, don't get nearly as much support as the leaner pound for pound champs like the AC86u and AX86u. Go 1 model higher, ac87u, barely anyone bought those.

When we switch to 7 in about 5-10 years, we should probably buy the WIFI7 - 86u.
Not hating on this deal, but just to put things into perspective: This router has been $219.99 almost continuously since June of last year. While this may be near the lowest price ever, it is less than 10% off from the normal street price of this router.
Do your clients support WiFi 7? What's the benefit of WiFi 7 ?

I went ahead and snagged this router. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09Z792...tails&th=1 Lowest price new was $439 via camel, but I figured I'd take the plunge since who knows when it will be back there again.

I wanted to move over to Asus's network interface because I have only heard good things. I figured quad band, 6E would be a good place to start. I have Eero right now, but coverage does not seem to be what it used to with network signal/traffic. The UI with the Eero was pretty good as well, but I was not as happy with the fact that they charge a subscription fee for access to their VPN, security, and OnePassword suite of items.

I am curious as to whether or not I need to go with the router I bought above, or OP's? The RT-AX86U Pro is an excellent router in its own right. Reviews I have seen have all been extremely positive. My drawback is that it is dual band vs. the quad band support on the RT-AXE16000.

Does this work well throw floors. I need to get a new router as out new house is 3 floors (basement and 2 floor) with the router on the first floor. The second floor and basement keep dropping singes even with it reaching to the back yard. So I do not need range as much as penetration power.

I have the router in my basement, next to my wired switch. I work on the 2nd floor in my home, and my work laptop has wifi6, with a speed of 1922/1153 (Mbps). It works very well for me.

I bought it in 2023 when my Netgear X4S router went nutty. at the time it was on sale at best buy, and I got an extra 15% off trading in old network hardware (super old router).

Happy with this as my 2nd mesh node. The speeds are > 1Gbps near it and still hundreds of mbps in the worst parts of the house. I got a used one from amazon for a bit cheaper than this a few months back. Good option IMO if they are available cheaper.

T-mo RT-AC68U (technically end of life status, but works well enough for my needs and Merlin will try to give security updates through 2024 if possible) ultra bargain distorted my cost analysis perspective, so I still think $200 is way too much for something with only one 2.5G port Smilie

One thing to keep in mind is the way you point the antenna's. They work the best in sending and receiving the signal perpendicular to the antenna. So if your antenna's are pointing straight up straight above them and below them will be the weakest locations. Across the house and above or below them will work better because things will have had a chance to spread up and down some but will still probably be blocked more by passing through floors/ceilings at an angle. Try angling some of the antenna's some and you'll probably pick up a lot better signal above and below them but depending on construction technique and materials it still might not work well and a nesh setup with wired backhaul might be your best bet.

Different routers might help out some but it's mostly going to be a matter of physics. Either signals can pass through your floors/ceilings or you moved into a faraday cage.

Yea one the the reason was the current one has the antenna's internaly so I figure with this one I would keep the middle one up and down with the left maby 90 (short side if the house) and the right at 45 degrees.

This is actually a very bad deal. People who don't do their research will get SCAMMED into getting this. You can get an ASUS Wifi-6E for cheaper than this.

***Intentionally with the bold and all caps.

I have the upgrade to this with 6E and for my use case it is useless. Only our phones will be able to connect to it and it only reliably covers that single room. Speed is only slightly faster, like 600 mbit compared to 500. The 5GHz band for the WiFi6 SSID on the other hand reaches the entire house and outside in the lawn.

You should get Wifi6E. That's wifi6 v2.0 with all the bugs fixed from wifi6 v1.0 which is this router.

lol with that logic I was hoping wifi 6 was wifi 5e patched
