SAMSUNG Galaxy A35 5G A Series Cell Phone + $40 Amazon Gift Card, 128GB Unlocked, US Version $400

Samsung Galaxy a35 just released in USA today. Amazon appears to have the best deal on it right now, although I'm holding out for a better deal. Best deal today, but may not be best deal tomorrow.

Points of interest (the stuff I care about - you may care about different stuff):
  • Selling at list price of $400, but Amazon is throwing in a free $40 giftcard.
  • You can add on a set of Galaxy Buds FE for an extra $50.
  • Good casual user phone. Not powerful, but decently built, big screen, SD card expandable.
  • Gets 4 years of Android updates and 5 years of security updates.
  • This phone is factory unlocked
  • Excellent battery life. Same battery as the S24 flagships.
This is the kind of phone you buy and use for 5 years without really thinking much about it. Not for gaming or power users, but for normal browsing, social media, streaming, and other stuff, it's fine.

$400 is a lot to pay for a phone with the less performance than a 5 year old flagship, which was probably the same price at release. You can oneplus 10 on woot for $265 today, and this is weaker than a OnePlus 7

No wireless charging on any of the A-series phones, not even the A55.

OnePlus 7 is end of life (EOL). That phone will no longer receive security updates. All the phones you have listed are EOL. And not to mention like the Xaomi, it's a Chinese brand. NO THANKS.

The A35 was just released this week - which is why it is almost MSRP. It will have 5 years of security updates and 4 years of Android updates. And the price should drop as time goes by.

The way to go is the Samsung A54 - almost identical phone with same processor, will receive security updates to 2028, can be found for ~$200, AND like the A35, has a Micro SD card expansion slot.

I'm looking for a backup/WiFi phone when I'm home - so not to tax my S24 Ultra's battery - and I think the A54 is the winner.

Some folks like myself NEVER use wireless charging. I don't like the extra heat it generates, degrading the (SEALED) battery long-term.

If you're in the market for this model, get it from Google Fi, $150 + around $100 for 120 days service fee

I agree it's not powerful.

But, it's double the speed of my pixel 5a, which runs android 14 just fine. No speed problems for browsing, video, maps, social media, or anything I actually do. It's not clear to me a faster processor gives me any real benefit.

5 years of updates.

Don't care about wireless charging. Energy inefficient and you still have to touch it to the charger. Zero range. My wire has a six foot range, so I can use the phone while charging and move a little.

Korean instead of Chinese ownership.

Call me ignorant, because I am not up to speed on recent phones or deals. But isn't Pixel 7a for $350 straight out better? Confused

With midrange phones, there is rarely a clear-cut better phone - it's a matter of what features are important to you. Midrange phones all have tradeoffs - being great at everything is for flagship phones.

The Pixel 7a has much better processing performance, but it is not straight out better.
  • No SD card support for extra storage.
  • Updates end earlier so you have to junk the phone sooner.
    • May '26 vs April '28 for Android updates
    • May '28 vs April '29 for security updates
  • Much smaller screen.
  • Shorter battery life.

Look at it carefully! You have the option to pay one time. $149 + (20x4). Not saying it's a good deal but slightly less than this OP.

I have google fi and on the cheapest plan taxes come out to around $10. So it's $149 + (30*4)
