Just bought the laptop. Yes, it does charge over the usb-c port, as you would expect for thunderbolt. Not too much bloat on the windows install. Just mcafee and myasus (if you count myasus as bloat). Connected to my triple monitor setup via docking stations seamlessly. Speakers sound pretty decent. Can't comment on hinge quality cause don't know how to assess that.
Cons
1. Heavy – Especially compared to my dell Inspiron 13 5310 (I know that's a slightly smaller laptop but still the weight difference is massive)
2. Only 1 thunderbolt 4 port
3. Touchscreen not the greatest imo. I was trying to read a manga by swiping using the touchscreen and so many missed swipes. Unusable for swiping to read manga like an iPad (let me know if there is a fix for this)

Overall, very few laptops at this price point come with thunderbolt, which I need to connect to my monitors. So even though I am dis-appointed with the touchscreen, I plan to keep it.
What if MS allowed you to switch out of S and into Windows 11 Home for free and it took less than 30 seconds?

The lenovo has non upgradable ram and a cpu that's about 30% slower but likely better battery life.

However the Xe iGPU is a little faster. It also has 4x the SSD size. Also have a microSD slot and a fingerprint reader as well as two usb-c with DP and PD as well as two usb 3.1. All for $150 more than the asus

If you don't mind paying $150 more and has no need to ever go beyond 16GB ram, then the lenovo might better.
So I just received the thinkpad today. I will say it does appear to have a higher quality build than the asus, and it does appear that battery life is better, overall seems to be better for portability. If I may ask you, in what situations would more RAM and the newer processor be better for? Should I be concerned that 16 gb and an 11th gen chip would become obsolete very quickly?

The 11th gen is not gonna be obsolete anytime soon unless you are doing some cpu intensive video encode or rendering, etc. I am still using a dell latitude 5400 with i5 8th gen but with 32GB because my task requires a lot of ram (which mean this lenovo wont cut it). 5400 laptop has one LAN port, microSD, one TB3, one HDMI 1.4, three usb-A 3.1. The only thing i don't like is that 8th gen HDMI is limited to 1.4. Otherwise if the HDMI were 2.0, i probably would never need to upgrade ...lol

If you are only doing normal office task and web and email, then 16GB and 11th gen won't be obsolete anytime soon.

My next upgrade will likely the dell 5420 which has i5-1145G7. This laptop has TWO sodimm slots, TWO thunderbolt ports, one HDMI2.0, one microSD, one LAN port, two usb-A

Thanks, you've been super helpful I think I'm going keep the thinkpad. While the Asus is a solid unit at a killer price, ultimately I think portability and battery life is probably best for me since my previous laptop was an old Dell xps that feels similar to the thinkpad.

This is a good deal for the "computer handy" type. Got it for my daughter for college since she's been asking for a 2-in-1. I also bought a 16gb sodimm to add. We used it for about an hour with the 8gb and found it easily used over 80% of the ram and bogged down and was not a great experience. After dropping in the 16 GB it now has 20gb and runs smooth as butter. Got an Active Stylus Pen from Amazon to go with it. Will drop out of S mode next. Note: After upgrading ram I sweat a little when unit didn't seem to power for a few minutes; eventually it did. Whew. She loves the IPS screen. We have another i3 system with 8gb win11 and don't notice it dragging like this one did before ram upgrade.

I went in for one as well.
$342 after tax and shipping, had it shipped to me in FL.
Bought the Corsair 16GB SODIMM slot from Best Buy for about $38 after tax on sale, that was linked earlier in the thread.
A bit of trouble "prying" open the laptop after removing the screws, but the RAM change was easy after that.
Reasonable performance. Trying to keep it in S Mode for now bc I suspect it runs lighter this way.
I disagree with comments about build quality and screen quality. Screen is plenty bright and razor sharp. 1920x1200 resolution is more than enough for a lil 14" screen. Touch response is OK, not bad and not great. I don't feel any flimsiness at the hinges or in the rigidity. It's not a bank vault, but nothing wrong here either. LED keyboard, and trackpad numpad are much appreciated. Chicklet style keys are nicely spaced and have good feedback.

At 3.3lbs and 0.75" thin, this definitely falls under a thin and light category.
If you're willing to do the RAM upgrade, $400 all-in gets you an excellent budget laptop just to get work done. The compromises are the i3 is weak compared to any i7 or i9, and the battery life is not great.

FWIW, I got 8,600 multi-core score on Cinebench R23 when plugged in. I think around 6,800 when running on battery. No tweaking or adjusting settings.

Quick question, I changed the RAM as well (first time, using the link above too) pretty easy to remove and replace with a new one in. But once that is done, closed it and press on the power button. Screen is all black, seems like no power, not running even after charging. Anything I missed it? I also added the old RAM back and still black screen.

This happened to me one time, try holding down the power button for a little longer, I did that a couple of times and then it turned on.

Also the case for me. I held down power button. Didn't seem to help. I plugged in the charger. Charging light came on. Then I held button. I released then it just turned on to my relief (see my post above).

The processor isn't that bad actually comparatively if you look at benchmarks. The i3 P-series is just a little power hungry compared to the i5, i7 U-series, therefore the tradeoff with this one is battery life more than anything else. I'm enjoying it a lot though after putting in a 16gb ram module in like others here.

Ya same for me. Wouldn't power on. Had to plugin the charger and then press power button for a second or two flat.

Just for reference, I bought a 32gb stick as well as an inexpensive gen 4 NVME drive. The port on this is indeed a gen 4 although the drive that comes with it is definitely gen 3 and on the slower end at that. The new drive gets the full 4500mb/sec it's rated for, although note that it gets warm on the bottom after a bit of use.
