Tempting but will Google drop support for this soon is the question..
I can confidently say I will not buy another nest product. We have had nothing but headaches with all Google products all the way down to the smoke detectors. Google likes to take features away for zero reason. The fun really begins when you have been using an app for 6 months and then they just completely take away all support for it and force you to use another app that works half as good. Hopefully you heed my warning.
This is a major problem for many, many people. Reddit's Google and Nest subs have been talking about it for months with nothing but silence from Google. All three of my Nest x Yale locks routinely go offline for no reason.

How are these being sold when they are no longer supported by google. Mine stopped working because the spring for one of the batteries broke. I got notified it would be no longer be supported months ago.

I have one of these (from the previous home owner).. not sure why it's so expensive compared to other electronic locks. Wish it had fingerprint or proximity based unlocking

Wish this lock was smaller and did not have huge box on the back of your door. Finally, it is so silly when it locks while door is open. Software is not great either.
I use mine offline, so battery life is not a problem.

Been unhappy with mine lately. It's been going offline frequently. Network hasn't changed. Sometimes I've had to factory reset the connect and lock to get it online again. Even when I try and update wifi settings on the connect it doesn't help.
When it works it works well. I use rechargable AA's.

I own one. It's been fine.

But unless this was $50-$100 I wouldn't consider buying another device in the google nest ecosystem. They keep raising prices, removing features, and killing support for products.

If I buy another $200+ door lock, it's going to have more features than this. It's well made lock, devoid of any features that justify the price - on a platform that is steadily decaying into oblivion.

Yeah - it seems like such an oversight to not have some kind of light sensor in the deadbolt to detect when the door is open or shut. Does anyone do this? It seems so obvious

This, you never know when Google will drop their support. These are just temporary hobbies for Google.

I have the Yale lock with Home key support and I love it. Bring the Apple Watch close to the lock and it instantly unlocks, very convenient and I have had smart locks since 2016. Just a number unlock is not a feature to pay $200 for.

Buy at your own risk, Google will probably make it a paperweight within a year or two.

This one, I bought mine without WiFi initially, and I'm hoping to see the matter module come out soon

This is also at $195 cheaper than this lock right now, but needs an Apple TV for HomeKit integration. The Schlage home key locks are also pretty good is what I have heard. Can't go wrong with either.

Z-Wave and Zigbee locks don't suffer from the death by Google feature so many of these wifi locks do...

Doubt it. This is under the Nest umbrella. Haven't seen them drop support for any Nest products other than the old Nest Secure and Dropcam that were legacy items before Google took Nest over (still, that was a 7 year run).

August locks can use a magnet to check the position of the door/deadbolt. Not sure about other locks.

They are supported. You're probably thinking of the nest secure which this could connect to for the internet connection.

Exactly. This lock used to come in one more color, but it's been out of stock for about a year now. Probably because they aren't making these locks anymore. You're taking a huge risk buying this lock right now, let alone it's a Google product.
