The more advanced use case is routing traffic via Wireguard/OpenVPN for security or IP filtering or more nefarious purposes like routing your work computer to your home network then to company VPN in order to avoid getting detected while working in not allowed locations...
It is still a good router, and it still likely to be able to keep up with the network in most hotels (which is usually crappy). But don't expect too much. Still, I have a couple and I carry one with my laptop.

How would a DNS sinkhole like Pi-hole prevent them from blocking local games?
Which is good or bad, meaning don't always update right away unless you know what you're doing. Case in point, my MT3000 Beryl was dropping like crazy when using it as repeater at a hotel with mixed WiFi.
Turns out latest stable firmware 4.5.16 had a bug and I had to use latest Snapshot 4.6 to get stable WiFi repeater mode. (Yes I had DNS Rebind and clone Mac properly)
I never had this issue with my Slate. And for these older devices the firmware is also more mature.
These are great devices for travel (I've posted plenty previously my positive experiences). This was my first negative/iffy moment with my MT3000
I plan on keeping the MT3000 - the BerylAX or making my own from with the RK3588 chip (want the CM3588 - but gotta figure out wireless components)

Please excuse my ignorance with this as I'm not the most technology Savvy person. But well this help me get better reception at the hotel I work at with basically just plug in and use to my phone?

Can this help my use case? I have Xfinity Stream but if I travel away from home I'll get an error if I try to watch a local channel. "I have to be connected to my at home network". Can this spoof like I'm on my local at home network? Any info on how? TIA
It depends. If the reception is bad because the hotel's wifi is originating outside your room, placing this near there may help you get a better connection.
But if the wifi is slow because the service itself is just slow, this won't improve that.
I have used a different gl.inet router with VPN in China. I used a wireguard config from Mullvad with mostly great speeds, downloaded 31+Gb of fallout 4 in less than 2 hours.
Yeah that's why people connect a router then they only see 1 device even if you have 200 behind the router using the VPN.

Well it's a more powerful and much newer device than MT300N-V2 but also more expensive and slightly more power hungry. Really depends on use case etc. I'm able to get around 40-45Mbps up/down speeds on WireGuard with MT300N-V2 and that's more than sufficient for most of the tasks I would ever use these for. Obviously if you require higher speeds or more advanced functionality then MT300N-V2 isn't a good choice.
