After buying 3 generations of the Amazon Fire Tablets over the past 5 or so years, I can confidently say that they are always trash when it comes to performance. Even if you clean the bloatware or hack them with a new OS.
They are only good as media players or IP camera monitors at best - and even then, crappy ones.
I have about 3 left over collecting dust, waiting for a bonus Amazon trade-in deal for something else, which is what they are always good for.
You are better off waiting for one of the many deals for older model Galaxy tablets.
The only thing is is good for is a digital picture frame. It's too laggy for anything else.
I have two older Fire's, I loaded up a micro sD card with movies and put VLC player on it. it works great. But I don't try to use it for anything else.
Completely agree with the comments about Fire tablet being locked downed even after Fire Tool Box. Such a shame b/c I love the price point/built quality of the Fire HD 10. Had a 2019 Fire HD and upgrade to this hopefully for a litle faster processor, but the lock down turn me off. After using the FTB, everytime I push the home button, it try to update the tablet which completly freeze the tablet. I have to reboot so many times so I gave up. Fire OS such a POS, they need to get rid of it. Never again I will get the Fire tablet.
For a little $50 more I suggest you wait for the Samsung A9+ when it's on sale, which comes every other month or so. Totally worth it.
I got this one delivered yesterday (fast shipping) and wow, it's great. The quad speakers are really nice, comes with YT, FB, IG, others installed and will download the Google Play store this evening to use Gmail, Google photos, and photo processing software. Screen can be let to very bright if needed. Easily loads everything I clicked on to view. I'm not a gamer so no clue there. The excellent build quality is very apparent. It's $69. well spent for my needs.
So you disagree with the person who made the software XDA Amazon Tool Box and you are right and everyone else is wrong.
This is what the developer says...
Restricted equates to wether or not Amazon has locked down the firmware. When a firmware is restricted it means we cannot fully block OTAs, use custom launchers without Fire Launcher, lock screen ads can no longer be permanently removed, and some system apps can't be disabled.
It has been about 3 years since Amazon sold a UNRESTRICTED tablet.
I also don't understand why someone would lie about this.
Funny, I did my nephew's new tablet last year, and it worked

Yah... just tell yourself that... over and over again and it may become true... NOT.
I'm wondering if this would be any good if I just used it for an eReader for the Kindle app?
If you want a ereader...get a Eink tablet.
This is good for NOTHING.
If you are looking for a value tablet there are only two choices that make any sense to me.
Either you get the Lincplus T3 OR the Iplay 50 mini pro NFE. Both are sold at Amazon. They are priced at $110 and $142 but it is what it is. These tablets are faster then the newest Fire HD10.
