Service can be activated online at https://metrobyt-mobile.com/resources/activate [metrobyt-mobile.com] as soon as the tablet ships. You'll need your order number, last name, and billing zip code.

To setup the tablet without inserting a SIM card, power on the tablet and wait for the initial "Welcome!" screen to appear. Then press the volume down button for a second, and a "NoSimLock is unlocked!!!" message appears. You can then tap the Start button and continue with setup without a SIM card. (However, if you later insert a SIM card into the tablet, it will initiate a factory reset and you will need to set up the tablet again.)

I went ahead and did the BYOD plan for $30 and was able to purchase the tablet immediately. I debated between that vs getting a new "free" phone first and then sign up for this tablet, but didn't really need a new phone and I'm not sure how long this deal will last if it takes 2-3 business days to get the phone. You'll need to get access to the SMS code sent to the new number before you can register your Metro account online. Total cost for the tablet was $3 (google voice # unlock) + $30 (BYOD plan) + $20 (tablet) = $53. Edit: YMMV, some people reported they had to call in to have an agent bump up their plan to $45 or $60 to place the order. The $30 plan worked for me.

Steps I took.
1. Signed up for a google voice number using a junk email.
2. Set up a voicemail PIN and then paid $3 to unlock the number. Follow these instructions: https://slickdeals.net/f/17325810-metro-by-t-mobile-port-in-new-number-offers-select-smartphone-30-days-service-from-40-free-shipping?p=169554114#post169554114
3. Signed up for the $30 plan using an eSIM. https://slickdeals.net/f/17143504-esim-bring-your-number-online-25-metro-by-t-mobile-single-line-phone-plan-unlimited-5g-data
4. After paying for $30 plan, I wasn't able to add the tablet initially. It showed an error saying call in (I didn't). I logged into the account with another browser and then was able to buy the tablet for $20. I'm not able to buy more than 1, the second attempt it errors with "Sorry, you are not eligible to add a new line".

Update: Metro won't allow you to add a second tablet to your shopping cart if the first one is already on order but not activated yet. You'll see a message on the tablet product page saying "Sorry, you are not eligible to add a new line." and the "Add to Cart" button is greyed out. You can activate the first order once you get the shipping notification email (even before you get it). This will allow you to add another tablet to your shopping cart. Use this link and enter your order # to activate the first tablet after it ships. https://www.metrobyt-mobile.com/r...s/activate This doesn't necessarily mean you'll be able to successfully place the order (see update 2 below), but will allow you to add it to the shopping cart and attempt the order.

Update 2: I see a lot of people reporting that after they add the tablet to the shopping cart and try to place the order, they get message to call into customer service and are unable to complete the order. I saw this post mention the likely causes: https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=170193645&postcount=24

Suggestions based on what worked for me.
1. Try incognito mode or private browsing mode on your browser.
2. Disable any browser ad blockers or whole network blockers such as pi-hole. Also try using a VPN such as Windscribe to bypass your network ad blockers.
3. Use a virtual credit card number from Capital One or Citi cards so Metro sees a new credit card. Another benefit is you can close it out after your purchase to avoid any additional charges (even though it's unlikely).
4. If the above doesn't work, trying shipping to a different address like a relative or friend. Use the name of person at that address (since you don't live there). You will get some verification questions about that person, so you will need to know some info about that person such as the height listed on their driver's license, past address history, colleges attended, vehicle ownership history. You'll have to answer 3 questions from one of those categories (maybe a few I missed).

I can confirm this tablet works with the $10 T-Mobile tablet line even though hasn't officially been unlocked.
If you insert the SIM, it will "brand" the tablet with a Metro splash screen as well as install a bunch of unwanted crapps. You can get rid of the crapware with a factory reset, but not the splash screen.

The original instructions for bypassing the SIM requirement was to hold the tablet in landscape mode, then tap the four corners in sequence of upper left, upper right, lower right, lower left. Repeat. Repeat again. (Twelve taps total.) Then press the volume down button for a moment till the message appears.

Someone later remarked the taps were unnecessary and only the volume down button press was needed. I tried that on two tablets and it worked for both.
So we all paid $50 extra for nothing!!☹️

You asked if you do activate it, how do you remove it from your account. The answer is in the previous post.

If you don't activate it, it should automatically activate after around 21 days.

Most posters here have a Metro line temporarily for the phone or to get tablets.
If you have regular lines with metro, you can call to cancel the tablet line or port out the number.

Metro rep not letting me cancel within the first month. Says I need to return the tablet or wait for one month and pay the monthly fee to be able to cacncel the plan without returning tablet.
Quote from JaTaN :
Port the tablet line out (similar to a regular phone line) before your monthly billing cycle ends

Go to another carrier for a phone promo (Total Wireless if you want any phones from them) otherwise Tello has $5 plan or you can do Visible for $5 (look for $20 off code) -- cheaper than paying for another month if they won't cancel the line for you
if port tablet line to $5 visible (verizon) you can get another phone discount from metro just change the number before porting back to Metro so don't need to meet 180 day requirement for t-mobile number

For people wanting to port our their tablet line to another provider, you can set up a TextNow account and port into that number if you buy one of their SIM cards ($4.99). You won't be able to port into TextNow without a SIM card (I tried, it will say the port in will start once you activate a SIM card).

I had a SIM card from their last $0.99 SIM card sale here:
https://slickdeals.net/f/17296423-textnow-unlimited-talk-text-voip-sim-card-activation-kit-0-99-free-s-h?v=1

They recently announced.
""Free Essential Data" plan provides unlimited talk, text, and 1GB of data monthly for essential apps like email, maps, and rideshare. " https://slickdeals.net/f/17487342-textnow-s-free-unlimited-talk-text-plan-now-with-1gb-of-free-data-4-99?v=1

I can confirm I was able to use Google Maps with the TextNow SIM on an unlocked phone. I'm hoping once the Metro Samsung A9+ tablet is unlocked, I can use it for in car navigation with the free data.

Someone mentioned if you port in a number into TextNow, the number won't expired, but I can't confirm that.

Yeah, you might be right. They deactivated 2 of the 3 SIMs I bought for $0.99, but I also didn't use them regularly as required. I'm hoping the port in will prevent this, so we'll see.

Did you put in the info online before going to store? Wonder if that helps or not.
Yup.The 5G model (metro) has a different number and BB does not have it in their trade-in inventory, only the wifi variant. So BB trade in is a huge YMMV.

I have a question about 72 hours extension after metro account suspension.
Do I have to request the 72-hour extension on the day of suspension or I can wait several days after suspension and then request extension within 30 days?

Doesn't have to be on the day of suspension.

Phone line expires 5/24 with one tablet on the way, eta 5/25. If I let phone line RIP (i.e. don't pay or even request extension), will the tablet still activate and usable for 30 days even though phone line has lapsed?

Thanks. Do you know what is the longest time period I can wait after the account suspension so that I can still request an extension? A week or any day within 30 days of account suspension?

Your IP address is most likely blocked, try it in Incognito mode. The tablet is still in stock.

Activate the tablet online right after it ships before your service ends -- otherwise you'll need to do 72hr extension (I would save that for later if you want to order another phone/tablet)

You won't get full 30 days of service since it syncs up with your account's monthly billing cycle (next cycle is prorated since you paid for 30 days) -- I think some people have said that the data keeps working for some time before they cut you off for non payment (maybe a few days or week?)

Usually shows OOS late at night -- order during the day
