This is the loudest of the bunch according to the datasheet...I'm going to wait for a 12 or 14TB as those are quieter

Do you have a link to the data sheet? I'm looking to see which are quietest for a future build.

That information seems to be about the 7200rpm version and not the 5400rpm version on sale here. Do you know if that's still accurate with the slower drive speed?

I can't comment on the noise of the 14 TB model since I never bought one Smilie .. I will say that the 2 TB version faithfully served me as , surprisingly enough, a file storage drive for the longest while and was still running great before I ended up switching to a bigger hard drive because I needed the space... I wouldn't use it to say run programs off of but for file storage my 2 TB worked out great. Of course it was a 5400 rpm model, not unbearably slow by my standards but "unbearably slow vs 7200 rpm" will vary from one user to another ...personally I haven't noticed a huge difference but being a cheapskate 5400 rpm doesn't bother me if it's a lot of bang for my buck Stick Out Tongue .. I would argue $155 for 10 TB is a lot of bang for your buck , storage space probably won't be a problem for you for quite some time I imagine Smilie .. or rather than making it a desktop drive you could plug it into an enclosure and use it for a backup of your files and backups of Windows or whatever operating system you're using

On the newegg "overview" tab if you scroll down to "documents" I found this pdf link which appears to have the specs for this 5400 rpm model

https://cdn.cs.1worldsync.com/syn...source.PDF

.. at the risk of igniting the CMR vs SMR debate again these are supposed to be CMR drives which in theory are more reliable than SMR (again there's a HUGE debate about this with a lot of people arguing SMR is just as good and cheaper .. being the paranoid sort I've opted for CMR myself but I respect the pro-SMR arguments of course too )

One thing I will warn people about (people who have ordered hard drives from newegg probably already found this out the hard way ) .. newegg has a bad habit of not putting enough packaging/shock absorbing type bubble wrap into/around the drive , I got lucky with the seagate exos drive newegg had on sale in that it arrived intact and functional anyways..

...with the seagate firecuda on sale I ordered from newegg however I was dismayed to see a corner of the cardboard box crushed and the bubble wrap in that area totally deflated presumably from the impact.. plugged it into my motherboard anyways and sure enough there was a horrible sound from the hard drive, promptly unplugged it (in hindsight probably should have tried it in a sata enclosure much less risky) and had no problems getting newegg to pay for the cost to ship it back to them and no problems getting newegg to mail out a replacement drive (guessing newegg just takes this sort of thing in stride given their cheap packaging methods) which worked no problem and is still working great one year later as is the exos drive from newegg.

In short I'd argue newegg's deals are too good not to take a gamble on but definitely test any hardware , drives included, from them as soon as it arrives in the mail to make sure everything is running okay.

I've mentioned external enclosures for hard drives a few times.. here's an example one, not necessarily saying it's the best pick but just to give you an idea of what I'm talking about

It says limit 5, but only takes off $135 for me, which is only for 3 (even though the site says up to 5)

Stupid ass slickdeals. I set an alert for this exact drive and it doesn't send me anything when this dropped. Then today it sent me an email for a deal for some totally different drive that I am not looking for. That's the only reason why I happen to notice this thread, and now the code is dead... thanks slickdeals, good job... 👍

Definitely dead, but odd since the promo details said 5/6 was the expiration.
