Yeah, specifically, there are many recent complaints of the box being painted over rusted metal and the paint peeling off. It appears to be a common issue with this item.
Looked like a good deal. However the reviews left in 2024 on the product are a bit concerning.

Seems like a good deal at $100 less than the 46" one that I bought last week. Not good enough of a deal for me to haul it back to Home Depot and return it for this one.

You should be able to tell if it has a bad paint job when checking it over at the store before buying it.
And if so, you could probably ask for a significant discount.

I believe the issue only occurs on the red color ones. Even in the stores you can see the red paint starting to wrinkle. I have not read any issues with any of the other colors. I plan to buy the 46" once it goes on sale (not in red)

Just buy this one and keep both. Double the savings!

I've seen it on the black ones too. Specifically where the silver handle meets the drawers, flaking paint with heavy rust. Inspect carefully and ask for a discount if you still want it with the rust.
At most you would get off is 10%. That's pretty much the max they discount toolboxes for quality reasons.
I was offered $75 off a $550 box that was already marked down to $350. Obviously YMMV, and certainly up to the individual if $75 off $350 makes rust under paint worth it.
