Math:
4.08¢/g Protein - Vital Proteins Collagen [samsclub.com]
  • Price: $24.98 for 1.5 lbs.
  • 2.9% of Protein is Leucine
  • 90% of mass is Protein
  • 102.9% of calories are Protein

I have basis for a cost comparison, as this is the only collagen protein I've analyzed. It's quite a bit more expensive than whey.

Not a complete protein, low in Leucine, and the nutrition label clearly has some rounding error. It can't really be 103% of calories from protein, but that's how the math comes out.

I do not know what collagen protein is good for. I eat it, but I get it from turkey drippings, not a canister, and put it in soup because it tastes good.

Collagen is in your cartilage, your bones, your tendons, & your ligaments. A very small amount is in muscle. Collagen is a good source of the amino acids glycine & proline. Do you already get enough glycine & proline in your diet & is extra collagen via supplements of additional value? We don't know.
However if I broke my hip, & was recovering I would make sure I was taking collagen to make sure I was getting enough glycine & proline. ~ Paraphrased from a podcast with Professor Luc van Loon that was just released a few days ago, for whatever it's worth.

I usually buy this, as it's only 12 grams/day extra added to my shake, but I can't say I have noticed any changes in anything. I did see where someone was claiming it took many months to notice any changes, but this info was probably released by big collagen.

I tore then retore my meniscus, which is why I started taking collagen. My meniscus is still needing surgery, but my hair and nails look amazing!
