I have this. good microphone for my teams/zoom and other calls. People said I sounded great. I switched to amazonbasics mic which is even better sounding.
I used an Amazon basics usb mic for a while but it didn't last. Started getting static. My blue yeti is still going strong but it's quite large on my desk so I'm thinking of trying this smaller snowball

I use one of these for video recordings. I am very impressed. I have an older mini usb version, but still works well. If I needed another, I would get one for sure.

Am I correct that this microphone is directional and unsuited for recording a 5-10 person focus group spread around a table or small room. If that is the case, does anyone have suggestions for an inexpensive omnidirectional microphone that I can connect directly to a 14 inch MacBook Pro (so ideally with a USB-C connection)?

It is hard to recommend without knowing your price range. I recommended Jabra Speaker 410 (about $65), if you have a bigger group, multiple wireless Speaker 510 in mesh works.
If you want cheaper, I still recommend Jabra Speaker 410 (used). I have seen it has dropped below $30 recently. These speakers build like a brick .

Thank you for your reply. My price range is $30-40 because it will be an out-of-pocket expense and will be used to record 4, one hour long focus groups. I like Jabra wireless headphones and didn't know the company had a lot of other product lines. I will check Amazon regularly to see if some used 410/510 come into stock.

I'm a regular user and had no clue. The quality of Blue's products was (hopefully still is) good enough that I haven't needed to buy any new products from them. Long time Snowball, Encore 300 and Bluebird SL user.

I've got the chrome version of this mic and it is EXCELLENT for narration and conference calls. I've even used it to record voice and acoustic guitar concurrently with great results.

So you just dont use the software? Your mics aren't even setup correctly
