I'm in France now from a previously listed SlickDeal. There's Paris and then there's the rest of France. I love the rest of France so far especially the Provence and Dordogne regions. Visited a dozen medieval castles and amazing caves in the past couple of days. Headed to Loire Valley today to chateau country. Everyone has been welcoming and friendly in our interactions. Food and lodging are cheaper than US once you get out of Paris. Stayed in Sarlat in a medieval Airbnb with luxury interior and full kitchen for well under $100 per night all in. Most of our other Airbnbs are around $65-75 per night all in with full kitchens. Rental car is $350 for 17 days and gets 70 mpg. Surprisingly economical trip.

Flew them once one way and would not be inclined to do it again. The worst and longest check in experience ever caused the flight to be delayed for hours. Prepaid for seats and food but they gave away our seats and ran out of food. Tried to get a refund for prepaid seats and food but was only able to get a credit (that expired in 90 days) for an airline I would not fly again.

Lol we just found the person who's never been to Paris, or probably anywhere in Europe.

Great prices for the flight. Yeah cheap airline, blah blah, just go to sleep or something. I'm in Paris right now for my third time in three years, we love it.

I did NYC to London with them. I think 8 hours was the absolute max I could spend time on that flight. Only worth it if the difference is enough to justify it. Jetblue on the way back felt like a luxury airline.

Hotel costs can vary dramatically based on the type of place you're getting and the location, as usual. Given we're on Slickdeals, I assume you aren't looking at booking the Ritz-Carlton, so I'll speak about minimum prices. Paris proper is more expensive than the suburbs (maybe about €90 per night for a cheap single room in a budget hotel, €50 for a dorm bed near Porte d'Italie for instance). Keep in mind though that Paris has a well-developed subway and regional rail system; what I usually do is to find a hotel near one of the RER A or RER B stations about 15-20 minutes from Paris and "commute". Around Massy-Palaiseau TGV/RER B station is a good place where I've stayed in the past, for example the Aparthotel Adagio Access Massy TGV right next to Massy station is showing a nightly rate of €65 right now in September for a weekend. Airbnbs in the suburbs near the RER A and RER B can be as cheap as 30 per night for a private room, at least based on my past experience.

Thanks for sharing. I will definitely look up those places you mentioned if my wife and I ever decide to visit France. Paris just doesn't appeal to me.

Having travelled fairly extensively in Europe, I wouldn't stay outside the city center in most cities. I want to be able to leave my room and be in the middle of everything...not take a subway/bus/tram 20+ minutes every morning and evening. Walking is one of the great pleasures of these cities, and Paris in particular.

I've done it, but regretted it every time despite saving a bundle of cash.

BEWARE. I booked a flight with them from SF to Norway, and they cancelled a week before the flight was departing without any notice. I just happened to log in to my account on Norse Atlantic's website and saw that it was cancelled.

Needless to say, as a low-budget airline, their customer service was non-existent and would not refund my flight. I ultimately escalated this up with my credit card company and retrieved these costs, but had to rebook last minute flights a day before I was scheduled to go on vacation.

HUGELY depends on when you go. Could be a lot or not much or in-between. I'll be in Paris in June. Booked 2 bedroom suite for 4 people in the 16th (very close to the Arc) for less than $450. That's a 2-bedroom suite with daily breakfast. If you go solo, you can easily get a room for $180 in a heart of the city. Type in "Paris hotels" in google maps and see prices for the dates you want to visit. If you go solo, I'd recommend staying in the 5th, 3rd, 7th or 6th. 3rd and 4th Arrondissements have very nice / clean hostels for dirt cheap, but you have to book in advance

Thanks! This really gets me contemplating a trip.. is English spoken a lot there, especially outside of paris?

Yes surprisingly so. I would definitely recommend learning the basics of French though as it helps prime the interaction. Almost all of our servers in even the smallest of remote towns speak enough English to make do. Seriously though, I can't emphasize enough how absolutely breathtaking every little village and town is in the Dordogne/Perigord region near Sarlat. We drive random tiny roads all to ourselves with castles around every bend. The most magnificent caves too. Truly awe inspiring. Can't recommend it enough. So much character and history in these towns.

I'm drinking a 1.99 bottle of champagne while staring out the window of my Airbnb with an 11th century castle just across the river and a huge cathedral in the foreground. It's nuts.

I just flew with them to London from LAX. Definitely a budget airline (they offer nothing for free basically, including water), but I had no issues. I added a carryon (10 kg/22 lb max, which they did weigh) and reserved a seat (both cost extra). Note that their personal bag size is smaller than Spirits -- but they also didn't check my personal bag size once YMMV. My plane was 3 x 3 x 3 seating each way, I believe. Flights were on-time, check-in process was normal, staff was professional, and I would fly with them again. This is a great deal IMO.

I had the opposite experience. France was like japan, where if you dont speak the language, tough titties lol
