Men's 501's on Amazon consistently sell in the $50 - $60 range, and that's on Amazon. So, full retail at $70 doesn't appear all that far-fetched.
And "new" Levi's are crappy quality as NONE are made in the USA any more. I bought two pair (one made in Egypt, one made in Mexico). The pair made in Egypt tore irreparably at the upper right corner of the back pocket the third time I wore them and the 501s made in Mexico tore at the crotch after just two wearings. I wear 33/30 and I am 5'10" tall, so it's not like I am stretching the seams to their max.
I now buy "George" regular fit faded jeans at Walmart and they not only fit better than Levis and their wear characteristics are much more durable, they only cost about $13 every day price.
I will never buy another pair of Levis again as their quality control is abysmal....unless they start making them in the USA from fabric produced in the USA, which is likely never going to happen again.

The George jeans are so durable and are 100% cotton. I got 505s and 501s from Levi's, without any stretchy fabric, and they both tore in the crotch pretty quickly. The Levi's look a little better, but they are trash quality.

it's a pretty normal way to size jeans. it's based on measurements. 29 is like an 8 if that helps
