I am not a fan of 13 fishing reels. Stick with Daiwa, Shimano, or other name brands. For $100 you can get a Daiwa that will last a lifetime. Even the bass pro brand is a better option and similarly priced when on sale.

Agreed. I have a higher end 13 fishing reel with an aluminum frame and it's average at best. The brakes are probably some of the worst I've ever used on a baitcatser. Can't imagine how bad this cheaper plastic frame one is.
Baitcasters are definitely the me of those buy once cry once kind of things. Just get a Fuego CT or an SLX and use it basically forever with just some basic maintenance.
If you're new to baitcasters buying something better will make it an infinitely better learning experience.
I've been using a spinning reel all my life. Does anyone have a model to suggest to look for used, for a penny pincher like me.
My most expensive spinning reel was $50 at best, so I don't have much in expensive gear. I can't get myself to buy an expensive rod, as most of my stuff just get handled to roughly or gets slammed in a car door. (Same with expensive sunglasses, I never spend more than $20...) lol

Abu Garcia Black Max baitcaster has served me well for less than $50.

Shakespeare and Okuma make some decent spinning reels for under $50.

This completely depends on what 13 Fishing reel you get. I'm cool with you trashing a bad product but not everything in their reel line up is bad. The Modus C2, Muse Black, Axum, Ascent, Concept A2 etc… Rapala bought 13 Fishing for the rod and reel side of the business.
