I think it depends on one's usage. If it's for temporary use, or something you can easily recover/reinstall so it won't be a disaster if the drive craps out, the low price makes it worth the risk. I keep important stuff such as documents, tax software and returns, family photos on my laptop. For that kind of things I'm willing to pay a bit more for better reliability. Even if I can save a copy elsewhere like a USB drive or the cloud (and I do) it's a manual step for me and I do it at some long intervals. I want to avoid having to deal with drives go back as much as I can.

Also the low ratings seem to suggest a pattern - problems start to happen around the 1 year mark, like 10, 12 months with light use. A reliable drive shouldn't do that.
I don't have a crystal ball so I have no idea how long the drive will last.
I keep all my important stuff (documents, a lifetime of digital photos, etc.) in my 1TB OneDrive cloud storage and then keep a local cached copy on my desktop and laptop. So no matter what fails, I've got, at least, a copy of every thing in the cloud.
It makes things less stressful when a drive does die (which rarely happens).

I will probably use these for data drives, not OS drives.

Copy that. I'm still searching for a backup solution. I am using cloud backups but I don't exactly trust them for two reasons. #1 is privacy. #2 is that you may lose your cloud account (free account in my case) any time. I lost Microsoft email accounts before and there didn't seem to be a way to get them back. I suppose when you pay for extra storage things will be different. I also tried running a Synology NAS at home. Having a slow and noisy (maybe just the model I had) server running 24x7 seemed overkill for my application. So now I'm gravitating towards having reliable drives in my laptops, and maybe get a reliable USB drive for occasional backups. Still looking for a good software that does the syncing.

Yeah I use Acronis for pretty much every cloning procedure specifically for the resizing function, but that's a last resort option if the software doesn't recognize a specific drive. Albeit I've never had a drive Acronis didn't recognize so not sure why that would be an issue
I have many different brand hard drives, and the corresponding version of Acronis.

Acronis for Seagate, requires at least one connected Seagate drive in order to run
Acronis for WD, requires at least one connected WD drive in order to run
and etc.

None of the Acronis versions I have downloaded will recognize the 128GB OEM Kingston drive. But Opensource software like Clonezilla have no problem recognizing it.

I suspect that Kingston's business contract with Acronis requires them to exclude all non-retail Kingston drives from their software's code. Just like Kingston's own SSD Manager program does.
Why?
I guess they want to provide technical support only to people that directly chooses their products for purchase.

If you don't already have it, check out M365 Personal. It can frequently be had for $35 or so for a year and comes with 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage, which includes a Personal Vault which is encrypted (in the cloud) and secure for your more personal documents.

Oh, I have the official Acronis True Image 2019 that I purchased directly from Acronis with a lifetime license. Now I'm understanding that there are other versions of it that may have some limitations. I never encountered those probably due to my particular license being a general purpose license.

Of course, with a paid version there are fewer to no manufacturer imposed limitations.

There is a reason why the manufacturers' versions are given away for free with hardware purchase.

Well lets hope AMAZON.COM ships this drive and not cancel the order. I now have an estimated ship date of May 23. If/when I get it I hope that the drive is recognized by the free software.

Dont use these drives in external enclosures. They run hot and hmb doesnt work with external. Better to get pcie adapter for them. A lot of those issues could be people using them without hmb

Oh wow, thanks for the heads up. Sadly I originally bought it with the intent to put it in an enclosure but at least I know not to use it that way now

For ongoing technical analysis (controller types, NAND used, etc) plus further discussion, I recommend joining the larger post here: https://slickdeals.net/f/17479752-1tb-kingston-nv2-m-2-2280-pcie-4-0-x4-nvme-ssd-35-15-free-shipping?p=170880957#post170880957

My order just shipped from Colorado.

USPS delivery, ugh.
Hopefully be here in a few days.

Glad that order was not cancelled after all the changing delivery estimates.

Anybody else seeing the same?

Mine has arrived too.

The Kingston SSD Manager and Acronis True Image software does recognize this drive.

However, I am disappointed that the SSD Manager does not have any feature that performs comprehensive bad sector testing. There are the usual stats like health % and temperature measurements though.

The firmware upgrade feature of the SSD Manager shows that no new version is currently available.

WD's and Seagate's versions are the gold standard for drive maintenance, diagnostic testing, and monitoring.

The Kingston version of Acronis True Image appears to have the same features and functionality as the other manufacturers' versions.
