Please be aware this is for the barebone configuration, which means no RAM or SSD. Factor in the cost of supplying those when evaluating the total price.

$5 more at their Amazon store. I'd personally buy through Amazon. They have extremely long wait times before shipping. In some cases months. People also have had many negative things to say about their customer service.

While I love these mini PCs(I've owned four Minisforum PCs, now), they aren't without their weird bugs. Myself and a lot of other 790 Pro users found that they randomly reset about once a day. Turning the RAM speed down from 5600 to 5200 solved it.
Also, more rarely(every 3 months or so), all USB becomes unresponsive and even survives reboots. Unplugging for about 30s solves it.

I'm not saying not to buy them, they are a fantastic value. But if you want a more bug-free experience, you may want to look at a NUC.

We're running about a dozen Beelink 5th gen Ryzens at my company and the only issue we've had are crappy mediatek Wifi cards. $21 swap fixed that issue.

Then the bottom line is: A) You have no skin in the game and thus no valid insight beyond whatever anecdotes you scrape from the internet. Thus, you should get off your soapbox if you aren't trying to help.

and

B) These systems aren't meant for people like you. Period. Again, they're cheap because you're not paying for a level of customer service you'd get from a company with a bigger name. Some people need hand holding, others don't. You can see this in the links you provided.

As for your nonsense about BIOS updates having no effect, you're very misinformed. A perfect example of this is the latest issue with ASUS Intel motherboards where their voltage tables were shipped out of spec. Those tables are stored in the BIOS, which is why the problem is being resolved through updates instead of a bunch of RMAs from limp-wristed users.

If this system follows trend of other AMD systems, the RAM is being pushed aggressively and that can be resolved with a BIOS update.

If you think voltage has no effect on heat production, you really aren't up on whatever physics you claim to know.

Moreover, nobody said anything about bad RAM, which is apparently especially inapplicable to you, since you admitted you don't even own this system.

What I said was overheating can be due to cheap RAM running bare without a heat spreader. More expensive memory comes with heatsinks. There's no debate there.

I bought the highest quality hynx ram for this mini pc and it happened and I returned it. It's a airflow and cooling issue

We have 10 Beelinks we've been testing (Mini-S, S12, SER 5 Pro) and they have been flawless. We'll be buying more based on our testing of the last couple of months.

Great deal for a decently outfitted machine. You could easily play a lot of the latest games at 1080p on medium to low settings.
You are not playing the latest game at low setting on 1080p....
I have ROG Ally with 780m that's already struggling with running 2023/2024 games at 1080p low setting.

Would you recommend this for an emulator / lightgun arcade build? Thank you.

I had good experience with minisforum customer service with regard to a replacement.
How? I contacted them for a 773 Lite that just one day died and they basically were like "we will replace it, but you have to figure out how to get it to China"

EDIT: This is the email response from MinisForum support:
"Ah。
Firstly, you need to find a place where international logistics can be done, so that the international logistics (A) can be sent to China. Then, find an international logistics transfer station (B) in China, contact this transfer station (B) in China, and send the computer to the transfer station (B) first. Then, the transfer station (B) in China will be sent to our factory (C). After we have repaired it, we will help you send it to the transfer station in China (B), which will then send it to your international logistics transfer station (A), and the transfer station (A) will send it to you"

Not sure, but I played Elda: Kingdom of Tears, Elda: Wild Breath, Elda: Golf Course's Awakening, Ario: 2D World and Mowser's Fury on it after working through some issues with some company's (named after a fruit) emulator that got banned out of existence from a lawsuit. The first one took a little bit of working through before I got it to work correctly, but it was an app thing and not PC (shader issue leading to artifacts and crashes). Was using in combination with Wemax Nova 4k projector and an LG C1 55 4k OLED. Set-up with 4 xbox pc controllers for kids to play games.

I had a GTR7 that randomly rebooted. I ended up sending it back, but I wondered why. At the time they thought it was overheating. It wasn't. And it seemed to do it when I was watching YouTube or surfing the web.

Yeah, mine was similar. It didn't even write to kernel logs, so was definitely a hardware trip, but watching lm-sensors showed nothing was overheating.

Honestly I gave up on trying to track it down until I found some thread where some guy had the same issue, and just decided to try lowering the RAM speed in the BIOS and it worked. I'm now on week 3 of no-random-reboots, so I can confirm this helps.

This is a great PC for work/general computing and light gaming - I use mine with two 4k monitors for that it's been great for a while now. I'm personally very glad I got the non-barebones model - having legit Windows ready to go matters to me, and the prices for RAM/storage are pretty reasonable compared to buying them separately. Thinking about buying one of these for my folks next - they're tiny and more than enough for them.

They do game - but I wouldn't buy one as a gaming rig. A Radeon RX 580 still absolutely smokes it in performance and you can get one used for $75 pretty readily. I run Civ6 on mine periodically and it runs fine.

I would guess that an hx99g or hx100g would be much better for gaming with the dedicated 6650m, although the price is a few hundred more. Dunno about heat management on those.
