I wouldn't do the trade-in right now. Google is trying to "fish" for sales before their Google I/O event in a week. Make Google panic. Don't reserve the phone. The price of this phone is only $50 less than the Google 8 which has way more capabilities. In past years Google has given people a free pair of headphones with a pre-order, on top of the $100 back. When they see their pre-order sales are down they will have to get more generous. As of right now the 8a isn't a great bargain.

I say this as a former Nexus/Pixel guy: iPhones are actually a better Slickdeal as they retain their value better.

Sick of Samsung and their USB-C problems. At school, the Chromebooks endure so much abuse and the USB-C plugs, every time. Two different phones, serious issues plugging in. Just ridiculous. Samsung is overrated garbage.

Definitely will consider a Pixel. Not into the Apple scene.
I had this same problem with my phone. Turns out there was a bunch of lint that accumulated in the port from being in my pocket. I used a needle to clean it out and it works like new now. There were literal chunks of lint that came out!

On paper, Samsung's offerings are better in terms of specs and battery life, but the user experience on a Pixel is absolutely the best you can get from Android. Google does seem to routinely have QA issues though. Pretty much every model winds up having some weird, show stopping flaw that affects some small percentage of the user base. The warranty support through the official Google store isn't the greatest -- if you need to do an RMA, they will either hold the full MSRP until they receive your old phone in the mail, or in some cases they'll let you send in your phone first and they'll ship you a replacement once they receive it --, so I'd recommend purchasing from Best Buy, especially if you have a store within driving distance.
I'm was a pixel user, the feature I miss is select from any screen, call hold and transcriptions. But they broke telephone in March update and I moved to S23. Thought I miss that but I'm happy with one ui features. SOC is great, one ui features are worth than vanilla android.

I have a Google Pixel 6a I got for free due to a Google SNAFU, and $178.22 in Google Store credit for something I don't remember. So out of pocket would be:

$499 + $46.00 tax - $178 (store credit) = $376 - $180 trade in value: $196 out of pocket.

Then I get back a $100 Google store credit, so if I could use that, it's a $96 net purchase. Seems decent enough to me to bite. Thoughts?

I use the Pixel as a backup phone to my s24 ultra, so I could care less about camera etc, just like the AI / exclusive Pixel features on it like call screening, hold detection etc. I also hate that my pixel 6a doesn't have wireless charging. I'll never buy another phone without wireless charging.

Meh --- I think I'll wait for another deal, would like to cash out my google store credit down to $0 and this deal doesn't allow for that.

I ended up ordering one because of a good trade in value for my worn out 4a ($160) and last day so use the best secure credit ($200) making the net $180. Not even counting the google store credit, as others have mentioned there's a chance you can only use it on full price items. This was the case for the nest secure credit annoyingly.

I really wish Google knocks it out of the park with the next premium version of the Pixel because with Samsung having gotten lazy with the S24 series - my S23U is ripe for the picking. Just every time they release one it seems to have some QC issues, and the A models usually seemingly being the ones with the least issues. That's why I generally would recommend most Pixel As to people rather than their premium predecessor it is based on. I absolutely love the call assist functions etc the Pixel has over all other Android phones tho.

Why can't they just knock $100 off of preorders instead of store credit?
$100 off is $100 lost.

However, without looking at any other "games" (not video games) google is playing behind the scenes, their store credit has a maximum cost to them of $70.

If you're buying games/apps/movies/etc. all 3rd party products come with a mandatory 30% kickback to google.

Store credits ALWAYS suck.... Unless it's an extra bonus on top of $100 off, in which case it sucks less.... A little...

Actually, the current "deals" aren't great prices.

I got an email from google in march and the Pixel 8 was $399. Now it's $449, or a 12.5% increase in a month.

They will deny your claim for pretty much any reason and you have no recourse. It's effectively useless, but a great way to convince people they're getting a warranty.

It's more of getting "7 years of android updates". You're not getting a 7 year warranty. Literally no reason to contact their support. Other than if you crack your screen and need it repaired.
