Tom's Hardware review:
Kingston NV2 SSD Review: Cheap But Risky
A generic budget SSD with irregular hardware

The 2TB Kingston NV2 is a dirt cheap NVMe SSD and not much more. Performance is fairly bad, the drive runs hot, and you cannot be certain of the hardware. It makes for a cheap secondary drive but is not ideal for laptops or for use as a primary drive.

I got it the first time it popped up here and it is slow. I will use it for nonessential data, if you don't have a use for it, I think it is expensive even for $30 Smilie

The thing about buying a drive that you can't trust is that you can't always remember that you shouldn't trust it. Drives with a high chance of failure are almost worthless.

$34 out the door is tempting, but those specs are very concerning.

No DRAM and only 320TBW is something you'd see on a 1st gen SSD.

It might be fine as a cache drive for a download server or in an emulation box, but I wouldn't put a regular OS on it.

Yeah, going to cancel my orders and just spend more on a better drive. The only use case for this drive that I can see is using it as a secondary drive for data that is already backed up. I ordered 3 as I got greedy, but don't really need them. Better to spend $30 more and get something that I can trust, and when I need a drive instead of just hoarding these now. SSD prices are starting to go down again, so much better drives may be available for not a whole lot more in the foreseeable future.

Can I use this as external drive?
I wouldn't recommend it. These run hot and also no hmb with external. Depending on use it will wear out the nvme much faster and slow down quickly and hurt the lifespan of the drive.

I was able to get it.

For a gen4 nvme, the speeds are pretty bad... But for the price, I think it's fine.

EDIT: ok I just read the previous comments, might consider canceling my order. I don't plan to make it a main drive but I guess secondary / external drive isn't that great either?

Thanks. I'll bite. Good for a fileserver cache drive or extra storage.

I'm using the 2TB version, bought it a couple years ago for $90 and use it as my secondary gaming drive. No issue at all. Runs a bit hot compared to other brands (Sabrent, TeamGroup, Apacer). Slower transfer speed but barely noticeable.

There are use cases for cheap no cache ssd... but not if prices for cached ssd comes down again.. $50 for 1tb cached ssd is worth the extra $20...

Yes, I mentioned some uses. But that's not what your comment said at all.
