I just want to bird watch from my window while munching on potato chips
If they were for $10-$15 I would take a shot, but for $40 I'd rather pay double for some reputable brand, like Vortex, Nikon, Celestron, Barska, Bushnell.

They look very similar to the Celestron Nature DX (maybe knockoff of that design).

Have anyone of those posting tried to actually handhold a pair of 12X binoculars? 10X is the limit most folks can reasonably do. In addition, 12X eyepieces are going to show a lot of chromatic aberration, and that ain't good!

1 star reviews on Amazon suggest poor build quality, but for 40 bucks I'll give them a shot if users here are saying they're good

What "users" are you referring to lol? this is a staff sponsored thread stinking of self promotion to the front page.

Agreed, albeit the CA is dependent on other factors, as well. I own and use a pair of Nikon 10x50's and that magnification is at the limit of anything I'd want to use handheld with any regularity... 8x would be more compliant, but I'm not using them for extremely prolonged viewing so the 10x is what I preferred, for handheld use.

For a frame of reference, I'm an experienced amateur photographer, including handheld macro photography so I'm no stranger to handholding higher magnification lenses steady, without image stabilization. There's no bragging rights to claiming you can handhold 12x binos comfortably. The reality of it is, 10x is a more reasonable upper limit for the vast majority of humans, 8x is probably the sweetspot for most people to handhold steadily... COMFORTABLY. 12x and the majority will find themselves frustrated with every little micro movement from your hands and body, looking for things to lean on, prop your hands on, prop the binos on, etc. Quick glances, sure.. longer, steady looks? Look for 8x, or 10x if you think you have truly steady hands.

note: many manufacturers will stake a claim on 12x being the upper limit for most people while actual seasoned users/groups tend to stake that claim on 10x as upper for most, 12x for fewer people.

Come on now. People came into this thread thinking they were getting a good $40 deal and you are talking about something 6x the cost. LOL.

Not a bad review here.

So I used to buy chinesium ~$50 binoculars. I mainly look at birds and wild life outside my office window while I work. One day I tried a pair of vortex and bought a pair the next day. It's like watching standard def vs 4k Blu-ray. If you can't tell the difference on your TV then continue buying the $50 pair.
