These I believe during testing was found to restrict airflow significantly. Do your own research though.

There was no redirect. Listen carefully and watch from the chart to the end of the video.

Here's the chart: https://youtu.be/RkjRKIRva58?t=658

0.52 was one of the best static pressures of the group.

He goes on to say "Even though the 3M 1900 which is a MERV 13 filter does have a very tightly woven filter media, it overcomes the static pressure challenge by having 54 pleats and 1560 square inches which is more than twice as much as any of the other one inch filters."

Worth noting they changed the filters they offered on costco.com. they used to be the mpr2200/merv13 filters, now they're 2500/merv14
I just checked and that is what we have from before the change.

We have 14 x 30 so always have to order online at the higher price. Seem to work great.

I think one thing people are missing is all the air coming from outside does not go through the filter. Windows and doors let in all the crap in the air. I personally buy the merv 7 hdx filters from HD in the 3 pack comes to like $4-5 bucks a filter. You will never get me to believe a merv 14 filter does not restrict air flow.

Good timing for start of wildfire season / smoke in air. I buy the 20x20 filters and strap them in front of a box fan to help on days where it gets really bad...

I do the same thing but there's no need to strap them. I place the filter against the inflow side of the box fan so the flow holds it in place. Wink

Yeah that works too (filter is supposed to go on the intake side anyway), but only while it's running. Smilie I just hook a bungie cord across which also lets me move it more easily. But either way, it does the job!

I currently use Nordic Pure MERV 12. I can't figure out the static pressure difference between those and this MERV 14. I woulndn't mind having the extra filtration with smoke from wildfires. Is the static pressure on these .52?

Lets face it. This whole thing is a marketing scam to convince us to pay more money for a "premium" product. This product is not intended to purify the air in our homes as another commenter mentioned. It simply protects your system much like a air filter protects an engine. Any filter in place beats no filter at all.

So if I'm renting a place, I can just get a cheaper filter? Is there any benefit at all from a higher priced filter other than protecting the landlord's HVAC? Does it do anything for the air inside my place?

These filters are close to HEPA filters and will restrict airflow. Even if your system can handle it, you'll be pushing less air when it comes to heating and cooling, so keep that in mind.

You can build an air purifier that works for the whole house by putting four of these filters together.

Just add a box fan and this purifier will beat any expensive purifiers you can buy.

With a dedicated air purifier, you can then use a cheap filter for your HVAC which saves you money on heating and cooling.

Great idea. Costco has made it easy to request a price adjustment online.

Costco does not price match Costco warehouse prices for Costco.com purchases. Costco.com prices take into account shipping and handling fees not applicable to warehouse purchases.

I picked up some merv 11 KN air filters a while back. They are washable and work well. I will say though, they do restrict air flow if I haven't cleaned them every 3-4 months. I feel like merv 14 would be too high unless your system is rated for it.
