This is the way they've been doing it for over a decade. It used to be they'd offer an 8GB, and then 32GB would be the next size. Then eventually 16GB became the lowest, 32GB went away and 64GB became the 2nd tier and so on. Eventually 128GB will become the lowest option but 256GB will go away and 512GB will replace that.
It's like reverse Goldilocks. They eliminate the "just right" size that the majority of people would want so they either have to settle for the too small or pay extra for the too big.
64gb is plenty as long as you don't want to/need to store a lot of multimedia locally. Most apps that don't include a lot of multimedia assets are only 10's or 100's of mb and won't fill up 64gb very quickly. Personally, excluding multimedia stuff, I've got about 20gb used on my Gen 9 including the OS. I do have a couple of big games and photos that got downloaded so I have more space than that actually used but even with those I still have plenty of space left.
Sure. It's pretty easy to fill up if you want to store that multimedia locally but you can do lots without storing stuff locally and for many people streaming is going to mean storing very little locally.
Yeah, good for enterprise/education model that just need the cheapest bulk iPadOS option for students, kiosks, etc.
Seems like that 64GB SKU should be sold only in their education or corporate sales catalogs and give the rest of us a 128GB minimum iPad. My 64GB iPad Air M1 with 18GB free could no longer do over-the-air updates because of "not enough free space" error (yes, 18GB free).
I just bought an iPad Pro 11 M2 a couple weeks ago (Price-matched a Costco sale price at BestBuy so I could trade in my Air and use some reward certificated). In any case, I'm starting to rethink if I should return it and order the M4 OLED version? The $200 increase isn't bad considering you get 256GB storage now, plus M4, plus OLED. Usually just upgrading from 128 to 256 is $200!
I don't need OLED (I also just upgraded my Samsung Tab S8 to an AMOLED Tab S9 for $199) and compared the Tab S9 and my iPad Pro M2 side-by-side watching a movie (Mad Max Fury Road) and I gotta say...hard to tell the difference. The bomb explosions looked better on the S9 but otherwise, I'd be happy with either.
BB also has $50 off the new M4 iPad Pro right now (or at least they did yesterday)
I'm calculating a larger $270 difference between M2 iPad Pro and M4 iPad Pro. Maybe still worth it, but more of a delta than $200 difference you mentioned. Can you share your math?

I meant the iPad Pro M2 is $799 and the M4 is $999 -- $200 difference for 256GB, OLED and M4.
Yeah makes sense. Although I think getting the Ipad Pro M2 makes way more sense than the new 2024 Ipad Air. Agree?
If you're paying all cash out of pocket, yes. That's why I'm trying to gather trade-ins, use rewards ($270), etc., to pay as little as possible for the M4 iPad Pro. Maybe.

My issue is that I really would like cellular, and there's NEVER any deals on cellular models!
