Of course not. But Android is inherently secure, apps are sandboxed, and apps have their own updates.

Installing Lineage with a Magisk module to enable Pixel features may also be viable. Also, the Pixel 2 lineup has unlimited original photo/video backups, iirc

This is such a delusional take. This guy doesn't understand computer security. 😂
Shhhhh. Don't tell him that. I don't want him to know that I am inside his phone.

Thanks for your help. As far as the phone bugs, it does concern me that this phone made it into the Woot selling platform for some reason.
Lots of phones make it to Woot. In this case, the Pixel 8 is out now, so it's not surprising that you'll see increased discounts and such on the 7 line.

How many updates does this get? I heard the new ones get 7+ years.

I admit I am not as smart. But still s bit surprised some people don't see the sarcasm. Part of the fun, tho sometimes excessive.

I would avoid the 8a as it is a Pixel 8 with cut down features. Worse cameras, no reverse wireless charging. They made the phone bigger by adding a 1mm bigger bezel around the phone, while making the screen smaller from 6.2" to 6.1" and making the battery smaller from 4575 mAh to 4492 mAh.
. . . and a reduced price, which is the whole point.

People buy the 8a because it costs less for most of the functionality. Cameras on Pixel to Pixel Xa have typically been basically the same, just without the telephoto. The reverse wireless charging has always struck me as a dumb feature (that I've disabled in every phone) as I've never yet come across a time when I wanted to reduce my phone's charge for something else.

From a value standpoint, for most people, the Pixel 8a is just fine, especially if they aren't comfortable or interested in refurbished models.

This is the truth. My wife had a pixel 7 pro and I had a pixel 7. Never had a phone that had so many issues with the modem. Would be left with no connection on my phone constantly and only wifi was reliable. I had been with Google since the Nexus days and had pixel 2, 3, 5 but transitioned to Samsung after our experiences with the 7. Read that the 6 had the same issues which was why I waited for 7 to upgrade but unfortunately, they didn't sort it out.

Yeah, I had a pixel 5a and it was awesome, but I heard of the issues with the new pixels and decided not to take a chance, and got an iPhone

The modems on Pixel phones have never been a strong point, but I noticed improvement from the 6a to the 7. Phone has gotten warm on me a couple of times, but not to the point of overheating and not that often. I think the performance of the phone is pretty good. You'll always find the bitchers on forums about any device.

Yeah, I was wary of people just complaining for no reason on forums, but the criticism was a lot. But at the same time it was 50/50, some people had no issues and then another majority had HUGE issues. I really didn't know who to believe

That low price is most likely due to the phone being locked to a carrier.
I'd imagine the equally good deal for the unlocked 128GB would be in high $300s. However this one has 12GB of RAM and 4x the storage. I'd say the extra $100 is justified.

I have a very silly question. Does it really require a protective case, given it's specs : "With its durable design and IP68 protection, your phone can handle water and dust[8]; it's also scratch-resistant, with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus".
If so, are there any recommendations?
Whitestone dome glass protector works great with the curved screen. Just watch a few videos on the application and it's very straightforward. Also, the back camera bar is easily scratched. Would recommend a case or skin that covers it.

Device access does not matter anymore. The Five Eyes and private firms have access to all data pipelines and cloud nodes. After Congress defunded CIA/DARPA's Total Awareness domestic program the CIA's venture arm spun it out into a private company called Palantir. Unless your device is air gapped and off grid there is no point in obsessing about system updates.

You may submit a tix now to get your device unlock. See the old thread for detail. Some people has already started doing that a couple of months ago.

I got my brand new Pixel 7 Pro for $99 from a slick deal. Although, it is locked to Mint Mobile for 12 months. The phone has been amazing and I love the camera. The deal was too good to pass up. $500 seems high to me but the extra storage could be useful to some.

Reduced price, slightly, as the price history of the Pixel 8 fluctuates from $550 to the MSRP of $700. Reduced features, substantial. Definitely noticeable in everyday usage due to the smaller battery, smaller screen and bigger bezels. The cameras will produce about the same image in most lighting conditions, but they are different as can be seen in the first image in this [digitaltrends.com] camera comparison between the Pixel 7 and 7a.

If you aren't comfortable or interested in refurbished models a new Pixel 8 is readily available on eBay new for $550, if you don't want to wait for the monthly price reduction to $550 on most major retailers.

For a price difference of $50 the reduced features are not worth the savings. This coming from someone who has purchased the Pixel 3a and Pixel 5a. The Pixel a series make sense when the price difference is $100 or more, not when it is $50.

If I order and decide not to keep it, how easy is it to return? Are the restocking fees for open box items going back to Woot? Is it as simple as an Amazon return?
