I've got pixel 8 pro from costco for 300 plus tax with 500 dollars off for trading in s9 which I bought from ebay for 70 dollars. Plus received 100 dollar costco shop card and 35 dollars fee waived for upgrading a line. Now, thats a deal.

I believe it's just the OG Pixel now that gets unlimited original photo/video.
Correct, OG pixel is the only one that gets Unlimited Original backups, while Pixels 2-5 only have Unlimited Storage Saver photo/video. But they do mention how Pixel 2 can still get unlimited original backups with certain modules Wink

In addition to modules, crdroid and derpfest custom roms support unlimited Google photo backups.

I'm looking for a solid deal on an unlocked new phone with a great camera to take photos of my kids sports. So with this Pixel 7 Pro, I like the storage factor here and the screen size.

I'm coming from a Galaxy S20 FE, so anything new will seem snappy to me and the pics will look much better. I'm really thinking about jumping on this deal. Can anyone talk me out of this deal with some decent logic? Thanks for any help.
Be aware if you plan on conducting video calls with your children with family/yourself. Children's voices cut out during video calls. Please look into it. It seems to affect all Pixel 7s.

Of course not. But Android is inherently secure, apps are sandboxed, and apps have their own updates.
Not sure what you mean by "secure". Does that mean Google, FBI, NSA, et. al. all have direct access to your location and everything you do or say while on the phone, but china has to find another way to steal your data such as Tik Tok? If so, then yes, it's secure.... Wink

Apples to Oranges. If you are ok being a slave to whatever carrier or plan Costco locks you into for however long, go for it. That is subsiding the price of the phone, probably by a minimum of $200 opportunity cost. This is a great deal if you want a new phone with no additional commitment. Love my Pixel 7 Pro. No issues other than cracking the screen on a hike last year. Liked it so much I replaced it with a new one. Best budget flagship out there.

The modems on Pixel phones have never been a strong point, but I noticed improvement from the 6a to the 7. Phone has gotten warm on me a couple of times, but not to the point of overheating and not that often. I think the performance of the phone is pretty good. You'll always find the bitchers on forums about any device.
I think the QC is bad on Pixels though. I was a 6a user for a short bit and had all kinds of issues with the GPS, wifi, and call connectivity. Others around that time reported no issues. Before that, I had a 3XL and that was one of the best phones I ever owned. I have a pixel 8 now and whole I have run into some glitches here and there, it's nowhere near as bad as the 6a was.

Constant modem issues, thermal issues, and overall bad performance for a 500$ phone, even worse for the 900$ it launched for. I have not encountered this issues firsthand(as I dont own a pixel) but online, in forums and in tech news there is a strong opinion that the tensor chip is terrible
I have a Pixel 7 Pro 512GB. I paid above $700 in the summer of 2023. The phone has not a single issue from my first hand experience. I hate to pay that much but at the time it was the best deal I could find. I have no regrets. Very happy. Looking to buy the 10th generation of the Pixel phone.

As a long time Pixel boi, don't do the 7 Pro. The curved glass is the dumbest idea since dropping consumer removable batteries. There's a reason Samsung did away with it 5 years ago. I have a 7 Pro that got wrecked on the unprotected side the case doesn't cover.

The 8 Pro is the last Pixel I'm buying. Too buggy to continue this headache.
