Game Details:
Mr. Run and Jump is a brand new game from Atari.
Oh no! Leap, the dog, has begun wandering towards the Dark Realm, and if he ventures too far, he'll never be able to find his way back!
It's up to Mr. Run and Jump to race through six colorful worlds, bound over obstacles, dodge deadly enemies, and save his best friend before it's too late!
Watch some gameplay of this. Some obstacles are invisible each time you play so you have to memorize the whole map. First clip I watched, guy was running and died to an invisible spike on the ground.
Was he playing on an emulator? You need to play it on real Atari 2600 hardware.
If you wanted this specific game, OK I guess but otherwise for people who want legit licensed cartridges of game collections (including Atari 2600) you should probably check out the Evercade if you've never heard of it: https://evercade.co.uk/cartridges/

No. They are visible. What you saw was an artifact of either a) Emulation, or more likely b) Video Capture. The 2600 was very limited in what it could draw on screen at once, so games often resort to alternating drawing some sprites on screen every other frame (or less). I've seen a LOT of YouTube videos of 2600 games that have "invisible" elements because of a poorly configured video capture setup. For an example, lookup game play of Pac-Man on the 2600. You should be able to see four flickering ghosts at all times. But in most videos, you'll only see two. And in some videos, the ghosts that you can see alternate with the "invisible" ones every few seconds.

I didn't say they were flickering. I said they weren't on the screen on some runs. For example, in one room, there's an invisible ladder.
It's fundamentally the basis of the game. You need to memorize the map to know where the obstacles are. That's why there are no lives. It's trial, error, rote memorization.
I'm not discounting any of what you said as being false, but that's not what's happening in this game and it's not what I said.
I'm pretty sure I still have the callous in my right thumb still 40 years later, so bring it on. Anybody want to go meet at the electronics section at sears and give this a play? They've got it hooked up to a 27" trinitron, it's frigging huge!
