That doesn't make sense. The msrp isn't even shown, all it says for the $169 rifle case is "compare to Pelican at $319.99". So is it $169 or is it 50% off $169? Anyone know?
What do you mean? If it says "compare at" then that's what the price in store is. It's 50% of what the price is on the website. YMMV some had them in store $150 before coupon
Started looking at the Apache 5800 to take my photo gear on the airplanes last week as I'm too cheap to get the Pelican 1510. So the timing of this deal is remarkable. Much thanks!

It's not this complicated. The other guy said it accurately: it's 50% off the price shown on the website. The "compare to" and "msrp" have absolutely nothing to do with anything relating to this deal.

grabbed (2) 5800's
they are excellent cases for the money. at $50 + tax w/ coupon , the price has actually deflated in real terms from pre covid pricing
i want to give everyone a heads up on what to look for when picking one of the 5800's up. review the following before you pick one out
- open it up to make sure all of the pick-n-pluck foam is there. i can't tell you how many times i've come across ones that have missing inserts (presumably taken by customers)
- make sure the rear plastic housing (that has the handle/wheels, etc) is properly seated against the case itself. you may encounter ones that were not properly assembled. everything should be flush
- check to make sure the wheels don't have molding defects and they rotate freely. you may come across improperly molded wheels, so the case will make a "thunk....thunk" when you roll it and the flat spot in the wheel hits the ground.
- check that the retractable handle fully extends, is not warped or cracked, and that the latch mechanism has not been snapped off
- check the exterior corners, to make sure nothing is broken. these are shipped without padding, in a regular cardboard box, a hard throw that lands on the corner unfortunately can cause the lip edge to crack off. if this happens, it could take a large enough chunk off that it no longer makes a good seal
- check the seal itself. check that it's present, check that all sides make a good seal, make sure that corners of the lip edge are not warped
- check to make sure that employees did not gash the top of it when unboxing it and cutting the tape. a common issue, due to the way it's packaged, is that the top will have a long gouge from a box cutter / utility knife. there isn't much clearance so it happens a lot unfortunately.
- check that the (2) latches snap tightly and are not loose. an issue years ago was that the latches were "too tight". they made changes to make them looser, unfortunately now it's a 50/50 shot if you get latches which are too lose. in other words, with very little pressure the latch will unlatch. this is a big issue when traveling or if these things are being moved around/ bumped in transit. no matter what though, you absolutely need to attach TWO locks through the lock holes if you plan on bringing this thing along somewhere where it may be handled a bit rough or bumped around. otherwise you risk this thing blowing open. use locks which keep it tighly closed in the even the latches fail
quality control on these things is hit or miss, and the warranty is only 90 days.
hence the pricing vs pelican 1510 which is $250 or even more depending on which insert option you get. if you dig through the stack of them at the store, you will find a good one. buy with a credit card that doubles the warranty so you at least would have 6mo of coverage in the event you immediately take this thing on a trip and it breaks

This is all excellent tips. I'd also like to add, these have a lot of plastic off gassing smell, so plan accordingly.
Has anyone seen the "we've missed you 25% coupon" recently. I haven't seen it for a while and I'm waiting for one.
I got mine last week on two emails. If you bought something and gave the phone number associated with the account that's been getting the coupon, then you likely restarted your we've missed you clock.

How did you get 2? Does the coupon work at different stores?
The cashier is not letting me use the coupon twice (there was only 1 cashier...)
Didn't get to make it to store until later on in the evening (7pm'ish); there was one 5800 left, immediately snagged it. Payed for it and put in car, came back inside to buy a 4800, payed and put in car. Came back in yet again, the girl said "just grab everything you are wanting". I grabbed an 1800, a 3600 and another 4800, she put them all on the same transaction & the coupon scanned 3 times. I was really wanting the rifle case, but I'm guessing this will happen again Black Friday. With 30 days to return I'll fully inspect the cases for damage according to Medic311 advice and return any bad ones. A slick deal indeed, these are heavy duty and very comparable to pelican cases.
