Be sure to watch the Gamers Nexus video on Asus, and do research before you purchase ANY Asus product. There RMA department has been allegedly incredibly shady. I have no experience with it as I don't purchase Asus products, but as a warning to consumers to do the due diligence make sure to do your research.

I own a GL702VM. It came with a 128GB SSD. I swapped it out with a 512gb NVME ssd. When doing that I reloaded windows as I wanted to be sure it was clean. After a few years I took the BIOS update from Windows Updates. Since my primary drive had been replaced, the BIOS would no longer allow me to boot from the SSD that had been the boot drive for years. Years. When I say boot, I mean, 4 beeps and no display. Dead. D.E.D dead.

I contacted Asus as to what to do, and all they could do was tell me to reboot, and hold the power button down, etc. Nothing worked. Then they quoted me like $800 to fix it as 'the motherboard must be bad'. I went on Ebay, found the exact same BIOS chip programmed from a third party. Purchased one of the BIOS readers on Amazon after reading that you can program it as long as you don't have power to the motherboard. I read the chip from the third party vendor, and flashed the bios chip in the laptop to a very old BIOS. Fired right up.

They continue to have that BIOS on Windows update. If an unsuspecting consumer who upgraded a pretty useless drive on a $1600 laptop updates it, they may brick their machine. Even after explaining all of this to Asus and doing the process over the phone with them, they failed to assist at all. They deliberately have a BIOS version out on Windows update that has the potential of bricking the laptop. I will never buy another Asus product.

Laptop still runs fine if I ignore their 'recommended' update. Planned obsolescence. Such a dirty practice.

I have it for almost 6 months. I DO NOT recommend this laptop. I don't want to say it's bad (it is) but it's definitely weird. HDMI port is huge that cable comes out if someone nugdes it slightly while walking by. Not suppose to be a gaming laptop but it still heats up watching youtube. Then there is Armoury Crate LOL. That thing is bad. Volume is bad. First Asus laptop for me and I am not happy.
Ill play devils advocate and say my HDMI port is fine however doesnt have a satisfying click. I can see the pressure tabs wearing out in the future from lots of plugging/unplugging. Mine doesnt heat up watching YT, playing COD WW2 as i mentioned yesterday the laptop is just warm and nowhere near "hot" fans are buzzing though. Armoury Crate you can just get rid of. Speakers suck yea...but only because im used to the macbook m1 and or ipad i have. Ive never heard any good PC speakers better than apples. Dont most gamers just use a good headset or have a booming speaker system anyways? Im sure Asus put that into consideration and saved the space for other things.

Yea im in no rush, but would really like a laptop with 7840 in it for the occasional gaming session. Its between this 2in1 and a T14s for me. Very hard to find those at a discount though!

If it drops that low I'll jump on it for sure. Is that $750 new? If thats the case - hoping I could get it even cheaper open-box.
The AMD T14s? I looked into that too but for me the 2in1 won out. That T14s is pretty nice also!
yea open box was like low $600s? Current open box i see is $601-$643

Now every developer claims they are being review bombed if their score or recent score falls below 9/10...
No, it is the masse of "DIS DEV SUX NEVR BYE THER'RE STUF" reviews that appear overnight when 95% the 'reviewers' don't own the game, only played for 0.1 hours (then requested a refund), or the game isn't even released yet. Tiny red flags.

FYI, stopped reading after that because the rest was certainly *nonsense full of even more projection and needless emotion clouding what could have been a rational discussion.

*I reviewed your work without actually reviewing it....see how fair that is Wink Now watch all the downvotes you get. But don't worry, that isn't review bombing either....

I bought this last time around for 750$ dropped to 700$ a few days after and BB adjusted the price. They will adjust as long as you are in the return window….. I am totally enjoying the small footprint. ACrate is crappy but doesn't really bother me much. Screen is great. Does attract dust and a few fingerprints but for 700$ I am able run my Drake Tax app and play casually (BF2042, D2R, and my kids play Star Wars Jedi Survivor) and comfortably.

I would pull the trigger again… esp for 700$

Open box for the T14s??? or the x13?

I might give this a shot I think. I know what to expect with a T14s, so might as well try this and return if Im not impressed.

And are there NO reviews on this Unit? ETAprime was the only half-review I found. Everyone else reviewed the nvidia model from last year.

Anyone have a review I can watch?

And can you charge over USB-C? or is that data only?

I havent searched since i bought this last year black friday but the only review back then was https://www.notebookcheck.net/Asu...259.0.html. It was enough for me to jump on this particular integrated graphics model and not the RTX4060 model. I think literally the only diff is the discrete graphics and build, features are all the same otherwise? Again i havent searched lately but i feel like no one would want to review this particular model with the integrated graphics.

Yes you can charge via both usb C ports.

How does the ASUS compare to this Lenovo slim pro? I'm partial to Lenovo; big fan of the t14 but bought the slim pro since I need a laptop now.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/leno...3312847623

I originally bought this laptop but Best Buy cancelled my order due to damaged stock. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/leno...Id=6559940

i also looked at getting the slim pro when i was considering a new laptop. you would only go for the asus if you wanted a 13in AND a 2in1. If you have the space for a larger laptop, a 14in like the slim pro is probably better choice for $ esp since it has discrete graphics (if you need that) imho. The ryzen 9 might be a bit faster on the asus though. Just comparing very high level generally via cpubenchmark.net

Hey I had a few questions (id like to avoid the same fate).

1. Do all Asus laptops update bios from windows update? I usually use thinkpads and those are usually done through a specific lenovo app. I would prefer to manually update my bios onceI know its safe to.

2. Do you think it really had anything to do with the SSD swap? If you just did a fresh windows install to the original SSD it is essentially the same as putting in a new drive. Could it have had something to do with secureboot or one of their keys?

3. There was no option to recover bios without manually flashing? I know some motherboard have dual bios or a fallback

4. Did you use this type of tool to read and then write? https://m.media-amazon.com/images...ybsWRS.jpg

5. Did you stay on that old bios or did you ever give upgrading a chance? Did they ever address it or release a newer bios update for that device?

For the price im giving this a shot, but will return to best buy if theres any suspicion of it not being perfect.
