I'll never pay $1k for a chair, but those StaplesMax chairs for $150 and under are crap and technology has little to do with that argument. $300 is a genuine entry price for getting something that starts to resemble quality.

Got this chair back in 2020 for around the same price when I started working from home. Absolutely love the chair and haven't had any issues with it so far.

I found a coupon on the Office Depot coupon page for a free $40 prepaid virtual Visa card with a $200 purchase. Used that instead of the code for the $25 prepaid card (wasn't able to use both).

Not sure if this was targeted so YMMV.

Ill never pay 300 for a chair. Dont care how much "Technology" is in it.
I thought the same thing once but I am glad I changed my mind by not being cheap.
My chair and the one I use daily for maybe 15 years now cost me $500ish and it still shows no signs of wear. Today it's 1k LOL.

Good to know! Thank you so much for sharing! For those of us who sit 8-12 hours a day, a good chair is essential. If you were a truckdriver, would you cheap out on your seating surface?

I have this chair. Running strong. Comfortable & can support quite a lot of weight. Not bad for something a bit cheaper than a used Hermon.

I was able to buy new armrest replacements directly from the manufacturer when the foam started degrading.

Dont forget folks, you want comfort, dont buy gaming chairs.. I bought a secret lab chair a couple of years ago and it's not impressive. spent at least 300 i think? but yeah.

i think once i get my forever home i may shell out for herman miller..

unless someone can convince me that those aren't the best or worth it? I wouldn't go used market for those, dont trust it.

I have heard some office chairs can get close to quality and comfort for the price of at least half of HM.. but I haven't researched enough yet..

my budget is capped at $300, are there any other chairs of comparable quality that historically go on sale? preferably suitable for a larger person who will be sitting for many hours at a time?

tbf they could be selling the same model but worsen the manufacturing process. But yeah... way too many people on SD make comments where they aren't the audience of the deal and/or on critiquing anything that isn't at cheap chinese garbage price point.
This is also made in China? WorkPro is a Chinese brand. I was just going to say that Chinese brands have come a long way. Then I saw your post ...

I've had this chair for about 4 years and... I don't like it.

It's uncomfortable. Seat bottom distributes pressure in an uneven, ripples-like pattern, the front seat foam is way too hard and digs under my knees, the whole frame around seat doesn't blend smoothly with the mesh. Mesh sinks, and frame digs into your body. I'm 200lbs. It hurts to sit in it... all the time.

The back is comfortable, armrests are good and I love the headrest (mine has it).

I'd rate the seat comfort at 3/10, back - 10/10.

Sometimes I go to OD or Staples and try their chairs... can't find anything remotely comfortable, so I'm still using the 9000. They don't make those plush executive chairs anymore apparently, the ones that you sink into like into the cloud and can sit in all day without a single sore point on your body. Everything is hard, lumpy and sharply angled in new chairs.

It's not a good chair though and definitely not worth $300. If I had to do it all over again, I'd get one of those similar Staples chairs that go on sale for $100, probably same level of misery.

I also tried the Aeron, it was even worse. The seat was slightly better (different mesh pattern, smoother transition to frame) but the rest of it, back/headrest was much more uncomfortable.
