Previously I also did a lot of Metro and Tracfone deals to give to friends and family.

That said I have been burnt enough times and learnt the hard way to stay away from them. At least with Metro the system rejects orders beforehand. With Tracfone the issues happen after you get the phone…if something goes wrong in activation the customer service outrigjt lies and wastes your time .

I saw quite a few comments on "unlocked automatically after 60 days"
That was NOT my case a few months ago, I needed to talk to CSR for unlocking.

I had this phone for about 5 months. The battery sucks, the SOT was about 4 hours on a full charge, and AccuBattery estimated it even lower. The phone heated a lot. Both issues should be caused by Samsung's in house 1380 chipset (fabricated by Samsung as well). I had a OnePlus Nord 20 at the same price range that lasted about 11- 12 hours SOT on a full charge without heating issues.

The camera is good but not splendid. The screen looks good but has lagged touch register/none-register issue. Overall this phone is buggy and not worth the MSRP of $699. $100 seems like a fair price if you don't have other choice.

How long should verification take? It's been clocking for 10 minutes.
I havent been able to get a verification code from the link and I've tried it from 3 phone numbers with 3 different providers, so I wonder if certain numbers are just like.. blocked from their verification code thing, or glitched with it, but I dont know why that woudl be the case. If anyone figures out how to get a verification code from Total by Verizon working, after a period of failure, please let me know

Last week, I also had two numbers on T-mo that couldn't get the verification code. So I used another number on T-mo and it was able to receive the code. I placed the order, then at activation I used one of the numbers that couldn't receive the code and it ported in just fine. So, use any available numbers that you have (even those that you don't intend to port) to get the verification code, then at activation use the number that you actually want to port, as long as the port number is not coming from a phone with Tracfone family of companies.

You seemed to have moved the goal posts here. Initially we were talking about a laggy OS and you listed "performance tricks" to speed it up, including disabling features that are the selling points of the phone. Now, you argue those "tricks" save battery. Those options are tweakable to give people a way to get more battery life, for sure. They're not there to make a phone work like it's supposed to buy turning all the features off.

Finally, a 120Hz display is noticeable by most people. I would not buy a phone without it. My iPad Pro has ProMotion that is so poorly implemented, many apps don't use it and it's definitely noticeable but my S23 is beautifully smooth and fast as is my iPhone 13 PM and Tab S9 (all have 120Hz displays).
Not really moving the goalposts.

Someone mentioned that the a54 was laggy - I personally have not experienced this. My pixel 5a (which benchmarks about 20% slower) runs android 14 with no issues, and my wife's a34 (which is slower) runs OneUI 6.0 without lag issues. I'm not expecting issues with the a54 that hasn't arrived yet.

So, I pointed out a few performance tips that would help, and I stand by them. 120hz is a performance drain, so are animations.

The reason I didn't mention performance later was to point out that even on a phone the didn't need the performance, I would do many of the same things. You may see 120hz giving you something, I do not see a benefit, so I choose not to pay the cost (performance and battery life) of using it.

Just because it's a "selling point" doesn't mean it's a feature I want or need. This is a midrange phone - meant for basic tasks like browsing, maps, phones, audio, etc..., not for power users. And, I don't think you have to do any of the performance tips for it to do those tasks well.

However, IF (as the original poster said) you are encountering performance issues, there are things you can do to improve performance.

I personally will almost always choose battery life improvements regardless of performance, because I figure the phone only has so many charges before I have to replace the battery. Conserving battery preserves the life of the phone (any phone - not just midrange phones).

Since when?
Anyone know when Metro changed the policy?
I bought a Razr on March 23rd - how do I find out when I am eligible to unlock?

May 8th; I was told anything bought before that will unlock in 180 days. I activated mine on May 3rd and my phone says mines will unlock after 180 days.

A niche question, but hoping someone can help. I am trying to port out my Mint number, but the plan is expired, so it cannot receive the verification code that Total is trying to send. Is there a workaround here?

I don't know about Mint, but most providers don't let you port out an inactive number, even if you manage to get the verification code by using a different phone number.
