I bought this fridge from Lowes for $1000 in Feb 2022. My 10 year old Kenmore died suddenly, I needed a fridge desperately, and there was an appliance shortage at the time. So far, so good -- no complaints. The ice maker is faster than my old Kenmore. I haven't timed it, but the Kenmore would run out occasionally, and I haven't run out of ice with this one. It uses the same filter as the rebadged insignia fridge at best buy (https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insi...Id=6357671)
My kids don't like the taste of the water so much, so I plan to switch to a better external filter when I use up the extra 2 filters I bought. I'd say the fridge is fine, but I would prefer a more popular brand that I can get parts for should something happen. I replaced the ice maker twice on my prior fridge, but whirlpool parts were easy to get and there are plenty of YouTube videos to help. I also bought a Midea freezer from BJs. I'm really happy with it, but freezers are a much simpler item.
CR reviewed this exact side by side model. It scored a 66 which is Very Good, but it was not one of the refrigerators CR recommended. The fridges that scored 68 and above were Recommended.
PROS
This Midea provides:
• Excellent thermostat control
• Very Good energy efficiency
• Very Good noise performance
• Digital controls
CONS
This model had:
• Poor crisper performance

In for one. Repped. Worried my 15 year old fridge is going to die so I'd rather get one on sale that wait for an emergency.
Does anyone know of a good water filter replacement on Amazon? I found this one on best buy, but I don't usually order from there, would prefer to find a compatible filter on Amazon so I can monitor the price.
My GE is 40 yo now and still working well. No pre-emptive replacement here though I do keep a spare fan motor. Check Ben's Appliances YT channel before buying any fridge or other major appliance. I do.
In the door ice makers are usually problems waiting to happen. Check Ben's Appliance YT channel.
This Midea does not have an in-door ice maker similar to most side-by-sides and I have had no issues so far. In-door ice makers are usually in the french door style fridge and are notorious for having issues. The cubes in the Midea are a little smaller than my old fridge, but actually like that a bit more.
I have had a Midea dishwasher for a few years now with no issues so got this fridge on a similar sale a little while back and am very happy. Midea makes the internals for a lot of HVAC (AC/Heating) systems that are sold by other 'American' companies. They have a lot of experience making devices, just not sold in the US under their own name until recent years. Working to get name recognition is why you get such a full featured setup at a fraction of the price most other refrigerators cost.
