Please stay away from the Mirai. The hydrogen/H2 fuel costs $36/kg. The $15K fuel card they will give is good for 25K miles. It'll cost ~$180 to fill up, which is good for ~300 miles. I'm part of a telegram group of Mirai owners. Many there cannot get near to 400 miles advertised range, no matter how hard they try. People in SolCal have to deal with unreliable H2 stations. People in SF just had their only 3 local stations closed permanently.

Further data point: Mitsu Outlander can tow 1500 - 2000 pounds based on model (less on PHEV); Kia Telluride tows 5000 pounds.

Inside cargo area, Outlander at 64 cubic ft (smaller than a RAV4 even…), Telluride has 87 cubic feet.

The two are completely different classes of vehicles, and I find cross shopping between the two to be very unusual. I don't think most people would do so.
Sigh.

An actually relevant data point: I already own a Ram 2500HD and could tow every damn Telluride off the lot if I wanted to. Why on God's green earth would I even bother looking at or caring about the towing capacity of any of the vehicles I may possibly purchase next?

Trying to assuage some post purchase regret through deep rationalizing?
Dude, why don't you drive one and prove us wrong? I don't regret my purchase at all, about to get a PPF installed, first time I've done it for any car, that's how much I like mine.

Because I have had a mechanic I know and trust (15 years - 3 sons and one wife's cars), I respect his advice on what to buy - never ever would it be a Mitsubishi.

If you want a good quality Japanese SUV at a fair price, get a Mazda or a Subaru.
I like that Mitsubishis are made in Japan.
I wouldn't want a car made on a Friday in the U.S. from a company that needed bailout, like, if I had a choice.

Then why are you cross shopping a huge Telly with a little Outlander? What possessed you to talk about the $15k difference as if the cars are remotely comparable? I mean a Porsche is more than a Prius too …. For another pointless comparison….

I know a master tech of 40 years who worked at Toyota, Nissan, and Mazda dealers who recommended Mitsubishi. I also an am amateur mechanic (done everything up to cam shaft changes/valve cover changes/turbo and exhaust upgrades) and all my cars were Toyota with one Mazda - what kind of cars did your mechanic work on? Mechanically, Outlanders have been reliable with the newest generation addressing the paint and interior deficiencies. The plugin has an engine from the early 2000s and the plugin system has been around since early 2010s.

Given CarPlay and Android auto, it's hard to care about manufacturer entertainment systems much anymore.
Daughter has a Mazda 3, and is still sucks with it. Too far away and still focused on using the dial setup.

100% agreed on that. I'd forgotten about the 'requirement' of the dial. Frown

Better deal for plug-in is lease buyout to get the $7500 EV discount.
How much are you saving over buying outright on the PHEV?

This or 2024 VW Atlas. I have seen both and Atlas looks so damn gorgeous plus the interior on the R line model looks and feels super premium. I am not sure about reliability of either vehicle though. I just cannot buy another Toyota or Honda after driving both for 10 plus years. What do you guys recommend Mitsu or VW?

Does the lease work with 0% APR? If so can you tell about it in detail please? I don't see this option on mitsubishi site.

VW's are good to drive but maintenance is heavy and owning outside of warranty can get expensive.

Suggest buying a Consumer Reports Car Buying Guide (available at any library; available at almost any bookstore like Barnes and Noble) and reading that for real, serious, reasoned recommendations based on actual data and thousands and thousands of model reviews.

Quick hint: they'll say to avoid the VW due to terrible reliability and owner satisfaction, and cross shop the superior other cars (Honda, Subaru, Toyota, Kia, Hyundai) before the Mitsu.

You could even just get an online subscription to Consumer Reports (it's cheap) and have immediate access to all of their car and reliability data. The website is really nice and has mountains of comparison data, so it makes it easy to review and understand what's better and why.

I strongly suggest you look at data in the aggregate rather than listening to one or two or three voices. Consumer Reports aggregates the real, live data.

Also I wouldn't consider this and the Atlas in the same market segment. Maybe this and the Tiguan?
