For those who aren't familiar with Lonesome Dove, it's a 4 part miniseries.

No cliffhangers, etc like with many 1 season shows.

Just bought it thanks to the actors in it and your comment, but apparently there is a sequel on Vudu called Return to Lonesome Dove. It's SD and stars a different group of actors, but still has some big names attached (Jon Voight, among others). I'm assuming it's not great since it doesn't have returning actors though.

It's simply fantastic. The book is a classic. The show is as well. Probably my favorite story. Slightly slow pace.

The sequel is good, but not as great as the original. There was also a prequel, with younger actors in the roles, called Dead Man's Walk, I believe.
And thena few years later, there was a syndicated series that lasted for a season or two that was ok as far as those late 90s syndicated shows went.

Return to Lonesome Dove is the entry that was not based on one of the four books. It bridges Lonesome Dove and Streets of Laredo. Streets of Laredo also had a mini series with James Garner playing the role of Woodrow Call.

This branched off from being a standalone series to multiple lol. I'm actually pleasantly surprised by this! Hope I enjoy the show, I'll definitely look up the others if I do. Thanks!

Robert Duvall got robbed of an Emmy win. James Woods? Ugh!

I've watched them all a couple times. Read the books long ago, can't say I remember them other than Lonesome Dove. I don't they are worth re-watching, other than Lonesome Dove. It is a standalone classic.

Return to was not bad...but so jarring with different actors, and the story was not great either. You put Jon Voight as a character in the original, he would have been amazing. It was not his fault for sure.

Careful though, watch out for insensitive cultural references (saw this as a warning recently when streaming an 80s western). I'm sure Blue Duck was potrayed very, very wrongly according to newhistory.

Not a fan of this boomer miniseries, but I always get a kick out of the water moccasin scene.

Yes, we all wish it had been you

Great show however, the book is approximately at least 10 times better. I highly recommend it. Thanks for sharing this
