another killer deal from grizzly
Sale ends 6/3/24 (PST)

W1702 Shop Fox 3 HP Shaper
Whether edge-profiling or making door stiles, rails, and panels, this is the right machine for the job.
The full-capacity W1702 3 HP Shaper will handle the smallest profile cutters, all the way up to the largest panel cutters with its three included spindle sizes, 3" spindle travel, and 5-1/2" maximum cutter diameter capacity.

The 3 HP motor rotates the spindles at reversible speeds of 7000 and 10,000 RPM, providing the greatest flexibility for accommodating cutters of all sizes.

The cast-iron table is precision-ground and measures 28-1/4" x 30-1/2".

The two-piece cast-iron fence is independently adjustable for different cutting thicknesses and special shaping applications. It is also removable for easy replacement with a zero-clearance or other custom-made fence.

For additional length, the D4927 4" Long Spindle will allow you to use up to 3" tall cutters on the W1702.

The W1702 comes with a 2-year warranty which covers parts and assures the unit is free from factory defects. (Consumables are not covered by the warranty.)

The W1702 manual was written by our U.S. based Tech Doc Department and is packed with useful information. The complete and easy-to-read manual makes it easier to assemble and maintain your shaper.

Our Customer Service and Tech Support Teams are U.S.-based. Parts for the shaper may be available online and shipped from the Woodstock parts warehouse in Springfield, MO.

Great deal for a cabinet shop or serious woodworker, especially with the 3 included spindles. Folks here have spent that much on router setup with router table and specialty fence gadget. With this you could make runs of mill work moldings, raise panels, and so on.

On the other hand it's a beast at over 300lb and requires a 240V circuit.
As with most things I buy on SD, I am sure it is really good at being unused and collecting dust.

Oh you meant….
Very cool deal, Thanks for posting.

I've spent $500 on other crazy items that I haven't used yet, but I'm just not quite up to this level of slickdealism yet. The level where I could justify to myself an $1000 expenditure of such a large ,obscure, shop real estate taker upper, that I'll hardly ever use.

Believe me, I'd love this, but my woodworking skills and woodworking space just can't handle it.

Thumbs up for posting a woodworking deal though.

This would be a bad idea unless you're wanting to run moulding or picture frame materials, etc.
For the hobbyist woodworker, the extra costs of shaper bits over router bits will make this unusable.
Not even all pro wood shops need a shaper table.
Theyre not really even extra big routers… it's a different tool for different purposes with some overlap of functionality.

My thought is to use the router bit adapter and focus on those, but where appropriate use the shaper bits for projects making picture frames, trim, etc.

So- getting into wood working, I haven't bought a router table yet, would it be a good idea or way overkill to buy this instead? I already have 240v in my garage.
You can use this instead of a router table, but it doesn't spin fast enough to use router bits properly. Plan on buy expensive shaper cutters instead of cheap router bits.

According to the manual, this does not support HDMI 2.1b, so it's not future-proof.
You're behind and outdated, now it's 4K 240Hz display over USB-C port Wink

If you have to ask whether you need this instead of router table, then you do NOT need this.
(Good price though)

EDIT: BTW, if you think table saw's are dangerous, usual nick name for shaper operator is "stumpy".

More of a shaper I think, I call router the little cordless M18 thingy that's portable but requires decent control especially when working with hardwood and does crappy job on the ends, this would give pure satisfaction looking at curves this produces.
