This phone will work just fine with service directly from T-Mobile. This poster is using an MVNO, like TracFone/Consumer/Boost/Cricket/GoogleFi/etc, that requires a physical SIM card be installed in the phone. iPhone 14 series phones and newer only support eSIM (your SIM "card" is now downloaded into the phone digitally). You won't have any issues using the big three carriers (Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile) as they all support eSIM. Some MVNOs do as well, but you'll have to check if you want to use them with the newer phones that do t have physical SIM slots anymore.

For you to think a ebay refurb would have an original screen or even a legit apple screen on the phone 🤣🤣🤣
It is becoming more common, but I agree there was nothing more idiot proof than a physical SIM slot. I also think it's a bit of a challenge for those that are less tech savvy like previous generation parents. Makes traveling harder too because you can just get a local sim and go.
If these are concerns, wait another couple years when they're much more common and stick to the iPhone 13 series or below
Btw there are rumors that the lowest trim of the iPhone 16 will no longer have 128GB but will start at 256GB
