To prevent flood that could cost 5-10k to repair? Go troll else where
If you know where the main water line comes into your house and it's easily accessible, should only run you a couple hundred dollars on today's standards. But if it is accessible you could also do it yourself. The device comes with a spacer so you cut a section out of the main line that length plus extra for the fittings, install male threaded adapters using one of the methods I mentioned below and attach the threaded adapters that come with it and install the device. If you ever need to remove it, you just put that spacer in his place. If you're not comfortable shutting your water off at the meter or using SharkBite or PEX fittings or pro-press or using a torch and sweating the pipe yourself, then yeah call a plumber.
This is from Costco (arguably one of the most reputable retailer) and Moen (a household name that make shower and sink faucets).

There are negatives to the moen flo. Many reviews saying that this will only last 1 year or 2. I forgot what exactly was the issue but i was under the impression that it wasn't user replaceable/fixable.
My first one failed after a 2-3 years, water entered the housing likely from the pressure/temp sensor seals. Moen sent me a new one out of warranty no questions asked. I'm at 2 years on the new one and no issues. I don't have an expansion tank so it sees some pretty big pressure changes.

The flow and pressure sensors are really good and have caught a lot of small leaks like running toilets and faucets that are cracked open. I have a tiny leak im currently trying to trace down but so fare can't figure it out. The leak test passes if I block in the kitchen sink but fails if I unblock it. I can't see a thing so it's definitely a micro leak probably slowly filling up the fixture. Kind of impressive.

Keep in mind that smaller flows will take more time to trigger a shutoff. My running toilet took 20 or so min to trigger. A completely busted pipe should trigger very fast.

Wouldn't bother with this crappy product. Our new home came with this pre-installed. Worked for about a year then wifi component failed. Attempted to work with moen support but they ultimately offered only a discount to repurchase a new one for 15% off. What a joke… save yourself the trouble. FYI- if the wifi does not work/ cannot connect to your app - nothing works including monitoring the water flow or emergency shutoff. Becomes a brick essentially

I love the idea for these, but there seem to be too many reports of problems. I'll hold out for an improved version in the future.

This thing has paid for itself several times over. Owned for about 3 years and just the stuck toilet flappers it caught have saved me untold $. That said, this could have been so much better but I would purchase again no questions asked.
I always wanted to use RaspberryPI Zero to tackle this issue with sound and some kind of pattern recognition. Ended up just replacing those flaps!

Does this still work on well water with a pressure tank? Meaning, would this give false readings of running water when pressure tank calls for more water?

Also, does this work on CPVC?
You have well water and cpvc? Ouchie

Home insurance will generally give you about $200-400 off your policy each year with this device installed.

It has for me, but it reports it as a very small leak, doesn't automatically shut off your water or anything like that. If every single time it ran the test it reported a leak, then I would investigate further, but it's only if the RO tank was refilling when it did the test that it would notice it.

too expensive to hire a plumber
I totally agree but this is a super easy DIY project as long as you have access to your main water shutoff valve and a section of water line after it enters your house. If you have a newer house it is likely to already be using PEX piping so just have to use a PVC pipe cutting tool to cut out a section and use PEX crimp rings or Sharkbite fittings to add the unions and ultimately the leak detector. Lots of Youtube videos out there as well...

Some home insurance companies, such as Frontline, will partially cover the cost of the unit
