Amazon dropped the already discounted price of $599 down to $549 a few hours ago. Seems like a good deal for anyone who thought 64GB was too little storage.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

64gb isn't much after the OS takes 16gb, or more with updates. If you sync photos, texts, emails, plus stream and play only a handful of games, there isn't mich left on a 64gb anymore.
The new iPad Air M2 base version is similar price and comes with 128GB, landscape Facetime cam and other features… unless you absolutely need this iPad's for the extra storage.
Dude, COD Mobile alone can be anywhere from 4-10GB alone.

64GB is miserly and such a pitiful capacity is completely unacceptable in 2024.

I have a 64gb iPad and if you want to download movies for flights it will not be enough. 128GB is the minimum now and yes I have everything offloaded to iCloud storage too.

I agree that 128 should be standard.

But again that's why I said, those people know who they are. They are the people who are downloading movies and stuff like that. Almost every one I know who has an iPad doesn't do that. They just stream content, and play games, and do note taking/ google drive stuff

The newer iPad Air does not get the 120Hz pro-motion screen. That's reserved only for the iPad Pro models.
That is what I said...that's why I struggle to buy M2 Air and went with M4 iPad Pro for more $

This is a constant struggle with my tech illiterate family members. They can't understand how to manage their storage. They end up never updating the OS because there's no more room to download the update. Put your media in the cloud or on an external disk!

I just accepted the fact and doubled down on the family plan… it takes me more time to delete all the crap off their phones vs just paying for it

Wish it was the 11 inch with 120hz refresh rate screen. Would have been an extremely good deal.

1. why would your photos be locally stored on your iPad???
2. how much storage do texts and emails really take

My iPhone 12 which has 64GB is currently at 48/64gb and I play quite a lot of games, COD mobile, Minecraft, among us, Roblox, and about 6 other games together take about 10GB.

My iPhone 12 256gb has about 114gb of photos and videos spanning 4 different iPhones over the span of close to 10 years. And technically atleast tripple that I uploaded to my pc as a backup. Most people prefer to keep memories of things in their life on their phone rather than video games. And because I don't use iCloud for photos, I don't have to deal with the current iOS glitch on the latest iOS update where old deleted photos reappear. I prefer locally controlled photos and videos rather than cloud.

In my opinion when I saw this on sale, I knew this was a way better deal than the new iPad M2 air base model with 128gb. The M2 isn't that much more powerful than the M1 to really notice a difference, outside of a few benchmark tests. And 256gb is really gonna make a huge difference if you use any kind of app that needs the storage, like davinci resolve for video editing, personal photo and videos, media apps you download your music and movies offline.

I'll keep an eye on one of these a few months from now. Great to see this budge on price a bit

Who? Couple years back then it's fine. Nowadays standard should be 128Gb and up.
Agreed. as an owner of a 4th gen air w 64gb who just upgraded to 256 m2 unit because of storage limitations I can tell you 64 is definitely not enough for many people anymore . If all you're really doing is browsing then sure but imo even moderate usage needs at least 128 to add life to the unit.

Lesson learned for me was if you want to extend the future of a device get a little more storage than you need now.

at least I got a decent trade in value for my 64.

Yeah 64GB is for folks who strictly use the tablet as a streaming and cloud device without using much local storage. Never seen a SD tablet post where replies are saying you should buy the lower storage model when the higher one is such a good deal. The M1 is fast and with 256GB it will last a good number of years.

For kids who go on trips etc. if you get the 256gb you're set for 5-7 plus years. Coming for a Ipad Gen 6 that lasted a long time

I don't agree with this. I know a lot of people, myself included, who have a 64 gb iPad and we're perfectly content with our moderate usage. 64 gb is definitely enough for the average person who just streams media, browses the web, etc.

Yes, even some games like Roblox etc will not hit the storage limit. I do have to delete some MESSAGES when poictures/videos clog it up but I don't need to keep 8GB of media in iMessages either!

Once tired of old games, just delete. Everything is just streaming. I have so much hotspot GB I never download shows, we just stream even when we're traveling in the car for a long time.

Everyone has different use-cases and how they want to use the devices.

I also don't download all photos to iPad, only the "shared albumbs".

Perhaps if iPad is the PRIMARY device then they will need more storage but iPad is a 3rd device for many people and def fine with 64GB

Everyone's usage is different and storage cost is usually cheap, with Apple being an exception with their marketing strategy.
