Depends on what you're trying to upgrade and needs.
Unless this has a must have feature worth $1700 not sure it's an upgrade worth the cost.
You will lose 2 extra channels and a better RC.
Here is a comparison of the two, to see the other differences.

Atmos is Atmos...it's position-relative sound, not channels. So the receiver converts those positions into channel components according to your configuration, and ideally according to the RC (though I'm not sure how well that works)
So this AVR offers 11.2 channels and supports object based soundtracks(Atmos/DTS:X).
As long as the movie offers "Atmos" soundtrack, what your AVR can support for it is what you get.
This AVR supports up to two pairs(4) of "Atmos" channels/speakers.
The usual bed/core layer speakers are 5 or 7. The two subwoofer sub outs are parallel(share the signal).
Room environment and proper position of those channels/speakers dictates the optimal setup/configuration to use imo.
Does using the external amp noticeably improve the sound quality? I have an A6A and was debating getting an amp.
Frankenstein set of 11 speakers from the flea market. Boston acoustic bookshelves, Montgomery ward black made in china floors, two Cambridge soundworks computer speakers and another pair of Yamaha floors for the rear mains all tied to an Onkyo nr797 9.2 receiver. Total cost $100 avr $60 speakers.
