Bit retention; I've gotten away with the setup you mentioned, but I've also dropped bits.. even tried a magnet, (and felt like I had life-hacked) but it kept pulling into other things
This review https://www.amazon.com/gp/custome...5WSDU5XTTW says "... it uses a captured ball bearing and spring to hold the bit in place ...", which sounds like an improvement over using a plain socket.
For the occasional use, can't you just use a 1/4 hex socket?

I must be missing something, I'm not getting why it's better than using a 1/4 inch SAE socket with 1/4 inch drive, like I always have.

This has the ball bearing so it holds it in the socket. Ive used a 1/4 socket, problem is when flipped it will sometimes drop the bit.
